What is the difference between standard and resort view rooms? Does anyone have a particular room # they prefer?
Thanks,
Marie

We stayed in a standard view and it was just fine. The rooms are great. We reqested the Sierra Building since its a little closer to DTD and we got it with a pool view. It was fun seeing that Captain Hook/Peter Pan themed pool all the time. We were also high enought that the noise wasn't an issue.

I have never received an upgrade at WDW but does Disneyland give out complimentary upgrades to views like WDW does for some people? Just wondering......
thanks

I do not know about the upgrades, but we have only stayed in a Downtown Disney view room. They are all in the Sierra tower. We like that tower best because it is the closest one to DTD and the monorail stop. We got a free upgrade to the DTD view with a special going on through our Disney Visa at the time. Now we are hooked! I'm afraid I would be disappointed without that view now that we are spoiled. We could see down into DTD and see all that was going on there. We could hear musians playing though not too loud with the slider closed. We could also see the nightly fireworks from our room. That was great since having young kids we did not stay in the park late enough to see them there every night. I really liked having an interesting view to look as after putting the kids to bed.

The standard views are in the Marina Tower (the one that has the check-in desk) and the Bonita Tower on the opposite end. The standard views face out toward the parking lot. The resort/pool views face either DTD in the Sierra Tower or inward in all 3 towers toward the pool. Some of the inward facing rooms on the lower floors are also considered standard view because the views are blocked by trees or all you can see is the roof of something else. If you have to get a standard view, I've heard to ask for these lower level inward facing rooms or also the upper floors of Marina because form some rooms you can see DL and the fireworks. I heard room 2000 was a good room to ask for too since it was bigger?!
A view room can not be guaranteed, you book a pool/resort view and you get what you get. We have been going for years and never seem to get the DTD resort view in the Sierra Tower that I always request and pay extra view rate in hopes of getting. Last trip, we were there when the cheerleaders took over the hotel and got a free upgrade to a suite!! but it was a pool view-lol. One trip we paid for standard and got Bonita waterfall view on 2nd floor(still considered standard), it was really peaceful with the waterfalls, loved it but it was smoking! Now all the rooms are non smoking but if you had to get a standard view, I think the worst one is bonita parking lot view.
HTHs.

We just stayed in a DTD view room in the DLH 2 weeks ago - it was great. We loved watching the fireworks every night, and listening to the music as we fell asleep. We could even judge how early we needed to leave our room by looking at the monorail station to see if there was a line. I would pay for the view again in a heartbeat.
