I've book a standard view room at GCH for September. Should I made any room requests? If so, what is best? TIA to all the DLR experts.

You can make requests for views or bedding configurations, but it is based on availability and it is just a request (not guaranteed).

Standard view rooms will have a view of the city/parking lots. Some of the standard view rooms, for instance at the Disneyland Hotel, are VERY low level (floors 2 and 3 basically) facing the pool/waterfalls/Downtown Disney.

Doesn't hurt to put in a room request, but it's always best if you want a view (which you didn't say you did) to just go ahead and book your room with that view category. Again, bedding configurations are not guaranteed and are based on the number of Guests in the room (ie if the hotel is very close or is sold out, rooms with only two Guests might get a single King bed instead of two Doubles/Queens).

Thanks for the reply. No, I don't want a particular view, and know that it is a request. Since I will be solo, the config isn't important either. I was thinking more in terms of convenience of the locations.

Doesn't hurt to have the reservationist document that you are requesting a certain floor/area/etc. etc.

I was thinking more in terms of convenience of the locations.

If you request a room that's directly over the reception/check in area of the hotel it will be super quick to get to the lobby as opposed to some other rooms in the hotel which can be quite a hike just to get yourself to the lobby area.

The hotel is beautiful, have a wonderful time :flower3:

We just returned from the Grand Californian and had a fantastic 5 night stay. I had booked a standard view room through Costco travel and asked at check-in if we could get a better view. Our check-in cast member was more than happy to show us a few options (pool view, park view, downtown Disney view) and upgraded us at no charge. Originally they had us booked in a room with a view of the construction at the very end of the hotel.

We ended up with a spectacular view of DCA on the 3rd floor and had easy access to the 'secret' stairs to downtown disney (about 2 minutes from the main gates)

So basically what I'm saying is that it can't hurt to ask for a better view even though you paid for a standard view. You are already paying a fortune for the room - why not ask?

They are there to help and make your visit a magical experience.

Have a great trip,
Scott
