Standard View at the WL...what will I see?

Will I really see a parking lot or service area if I book a standard view? Has anyone had a standard view and had a parking lot view? Makes me want to upgrade a bit.

rkmassa - Everytime I've booked a standard room, they always upgrade us when we check in to a courtyard view. However, the standard view rooms aren't that bad.

I am also staying there in December. I booked a woods view, would really like a courtyard view but am tempted to change to a standard. Mostly every post I read, the person gets an upgrade, especially during a slow season. What are the chances? :cool1:

Avoid the standard rooms overlooking the service area. It's not enjoyable to look at dumpsters. Having said that, my experience with the WL is that there is a good chance you will be upgraded. We were upgraded 3 out of 5 times. Enjoy!

We have a standard for the first week of Dec. I think all standards and woodsviews are sold-out for early Dec. (I've checked the website to see if I could get the dining plan). We've stayed twice in courtyard: the first was a comp upgrade from woodsview, the second we got with a good public discount last year (those were the days....).

Anyway, we are fine if we don't get upgraded. Sure, you might get a "dumpster view," but if you look toward MK instead of straight down you might have a good view of the castle. Then there's the standard "roof" view where you'll look toward the bus stop as see a bunch of roof lines. Some standards are on the lobby where that time of year you'll walk out of your room to see the incredible lobby decorated for Christmas. We've gotten to the point where we love the Lodge and really don't care where we are. It's a beautiful place, and we're thrilled to be going again.

Stayed in a standard room over Easter break. We had a room overlooking otter pond, a little pond that yes indeed does have otters. It was a great view, could see the CR resort thru the trees - we were on the second floor. A higher floor would probably yield an even better view of the monorail's coming and goings thru the CR. No parking lot or delivery area in sight unless you leaned out and looked sideways of the balcony. Ask for that upon check in, you won't be disappointed with that view if an upgrade is not available.

I was asking my self the same question.
We have reservations for a standard room Dec. 11th to 20th.
A free upgrade would be nice but not necessary.

We requested a standard view when we stayed there in 9/02. We were pleasantly surprised by our beautiful view of the pool!!! We could even see the parade out on the lake and the geyser. It was really amazing!

Upgrades are great, but be prepared to get what you book. We've been to WDW lots (values, moderates & deluxe) and have never received complimentary upgrades anywhere (including WL where we've stayed 3 or 4 times).

Good luck - hope you enjoy WL!

I had a standard view room once. It really wasn't that bad. We don't stay at WL to look out the window anyway. We were directly over a little playground area between WL and the WL Villas. We could see the parking lot, but we had to look past the playground, the bus loading area, and a bunch of trees to see it. Even then, it was maybe 5% of our total view. We did not see any service areas, at least none that I noticed.

Our standard view room was also of the otter pond. It was on the fifth floor facing the Magic Kingdom and Contemporary Resort. We could see the spires of Space Mountain and the roof of the MK Train Station.

During the afternoon FL rain showers, the otters would frolic in the pond. Really! We have video of them playing like children. We also saw turtles, egrets, a Roseate Spoonbill, and a family of opossum. There were four of them. One adult and three babies. They would walk in a line to the pond - one right after the other. It was like our own little nature channel when we sat on our balcony sometimes.

I'd stay in that room again in a heartbeat!

I located our room number - 2026. As you are looking at the resort entrance, it is your left side. Hope it helps.
