Just curious as to whether anyone was able to book a standard room at POR with the Disney Visa discount or whether they weren't offering it at all. Wondering whether it will be offered to the general public. TIA ~:)~

I wasn't even able to book a standard room at rack rate back in July when 2015 rates were released for POR. After checking it out on the POR unofficial site, with the new categories a few years back there are only a little over 200 standard rooms in the resort now so I'm guessing they book up pretty quick. We had to book a garden view and were able to get the SPD discount on that.

I'd check the website to see if that category is even showing avail on that date. This is just my experience (and ideas) thus far though and I am by no means as well versed as many on this board so I could be way far off on my assumptions :)

Yes, I did check booking online first and standard rooms were/are available. The CM didn't say "there are no standard rooms left" he said "I don't even see standard rooms". He offered me a King or Pool view first and I had to inquire about the Standard or Garden View and he did have a Garden View. :confused3

I JUST now (30 minutes ago) booked POR with the Disney Visa discount. She gave me an option of standard room or Royal room with standard view (or i could have upgraded view as well). I booked the Royal room standard view as it wasn't much more (about $10/nt more). My rate with discount for the royal room standard view worked out to be $219/nt. If that helps:)

Just tried calling again and he said he only has Garden View available for our dates (3/5-3/10). But at least you did answer my question, they are offering Standard rooms. :)

Was this the room only discount.

I put a request in to my Disney TA yesterday to price out a March trip using the Disney Visa, asking for both S-P-D and RO discounts at POR-AB (family of 5). Hopefully will hear something back later today.

I thought when I checked myself on line I didn't see anything, but who knows.

Yeah they don't mention the Visa deal on the website for some reason, but I got an email yesterday and also saw it mentioned on facebook. :thumbsup2

Here is what I just got back from my TA.

For POR (AB section as we are family of 5):

S-P-D the rate is for a standard room. I had her price out 9 nights with 9 day base tickets and plus dining and it priced out at about $4900 with taxes. I tried to do the manual calculation and it came out about $5820, so about a $925 savings or about 20%

For the RO discount, it only applied to GV rooms, so 9 nights with 9 day base tickets (no dining) was about $3700 compared to about $4,175, so a little over $500 in savings, about 15% if I calculated it right.

The one thing my TA said was that for SPD promo she had to call, the rates are not on the website.

Not sure if it is enough of a discount to entice me down. Time will tell.

Just priced airfare for March 2015 dates - $650 - $700 RT x 5 = :furious:

Looks like a no or maybe :drive: but its a long trip.

The RO seems a little high, what are your dates?

March 6 - 15, start of peak rates.

Don't know what your passes cost, but I come up with $1845.85 for your room only.

4 weekend nights @ 222.40=889.60
5 week nights @191.25=956.25
POR Garden View March 6-15

That's an average of about 22.5% discount from rack rates.

I was calculating using the rates listed on MouseSavers for 2015.

GV for weekends starting 3/6 (including tax ) = $278 p/night and weekdays with tax = $255 p/night.

Your rates seem too low, are you including tax and are you sure you are peak season?

Yes I used 2015 peak season rates and then deducted the 20% for weekends and 25% for week nights.

278.00 - 20% = 222.40 per night
255.00 - 25% = 191.25 per night

I then took those numbers and multiplied them times the correct number of nights to get my total.

Or using the "rack rates" that you just posted, you could figure it this way:

278.00 (weekend) x 4 = 1112.00 - 20% = 889.60
255.00 (week night) x 5 = 2387.00 - 25% = 956.25

Anyway you look at it, the total "room only" price with discount it $1845. :)

If it helps, I can tell you what I just booked using Disney Visa discount. Booked at POR March 10-17
We were offered and given price for standard rooms, and then she priced Royal Room for us and the price wasn't much different so I upgraded...then I upgraded again to Garden View/Royal Room (added $30 for the week). The price for the room / 7 nts WITH tax is $1614.

Hope that helps:)

I was quoted a 9 day package deal for room and tickets, 9 nights and 9 day MYW ticket (non hopper). Room was GV.

Agent quoted me $3,643 for the package, which includes tax.

I priced out the rooms at rack rate with tax and came up with a rack rate of $2,387 (inc tax) and $1,790 for our tickets, or a cost of $4,177.

$3,643 divided by $4,177 = 87% or 13% discount.

I didn't get an itemized quote so I don't know why it appears that I'm not getting 20-25% off.

Regardless, once I found out the cost of airfare, it killed the deal.

It all depends on the dates you are going. I had 2 standard rooms already booked. But when I went to apply the discount, I had to upgrade one to a Garden View and the other to a pool room. I asked if they might release any standard when they released the public discount, she thought they wouldn't.
