Can anyone who has had a standard room at AKL tell me if you can see a little of the savannah from these rooms?

Deb.

I booked a standard room and requested the Kudu Trail. It was quite a hike from the lobby, but I woke up to animals every morning and they came around regularly.

2 things for you....

#1 - when we stayed there, we booked standard room and were given a Savannah room. Apparently, they over sell standard rooms.

#2 - The Savannah view was cool the 1st day, maybe 2. But soon it became the family joke. "hey, did you see the zebra" or "oh look, a zebra" to finally on the 3rd and 4th day, "big deal, the same old zebra again" . The novelty wore off quickly.

If I were to go back and wanted a better view, it would be for a pool view. Give me bikini ladies over a zebra any day.

Some yes but it's not much. There is still the viewing areas down by the lobby and various window areas in hallways you can see them from.

Honestly with savannah views they are hit or miss. We stayed for a week and a bit and didn't see anything in the mornings, it was only when we came back midday on the last couple days of the trip that we saw some giraffes. I stayed a few days a year or so later and from where I was there were plenty more zebras & giraffes on a daily basis.

We have stayed with an Arusha view(Arusha is the main savannah) multiple times and have always had a great view of the animals. We have noticed that they do come out and clean the savannah daily and the animals are not there when they are doing the cleaning and refill of the hidden food locations. I love waking up and sitting out at night looking at the animals, but overall how much time will you spend in your room? The lobby is amazing and there are plenty of animal viewing areas you can access in the resort. If you want the feel of the resort for less money than standard is the best of both worlds. My mom stayed in a pool view room during our last stay and it was beautiful. I was lucky to be upgraded during our last stay to the Arusha because we had booked a pool view to save money for my mom who was paying for the trip, so upgrades do happen. Have a wonderful trip!

I completely disagree, we were there for a week and really enjoyed watching the different animals each day from our balcony.

This is what we did last April, and we ended up with a wonderful Savannah view.

(and it was a LONG haul to the lobby, but well worth it in our opinion)

I am doing this for my daughter who is an adult but suffers from a neurological disability which gives her severe migraines everyday. Hubby and I are hoping she will get a few mornings without a headache then we go to a park and leave when she feels ill and she spends the rest of the day in bed. I will do a split port orleans for most of the days and two nights at animal kingdom lodge.

So I thought even if she gets sick at the animal lodge if we had the savannah view she could sit on the balcony and watch the animals and get some enjoyment. The days at animal kingdom lodge will be non park days, just relaxing days before we drive home to Canada. I cant get over the price of a savannah room well over $400 U.S.

Thanks everyone for all your help.

If you for sure want a view of the savannah and are planning on spending a lot of time at AKL, then you should book a savannah room. I requested Kudu Trail and got it, but that is not always the case. In any event, I hope you and your family have a wonderful time.
