Hi: Has anybody who booked a standard room at akl and requested an upgrade to a savannah room not received the upgrade. Just wondering how often people get upgraded.

I believe a lot depends on the time of year and how crowded it is. I have heard of people that haven't been able to get the upgrade, even if they could pay for it, as the resort was full.

I think a lot of it would depend on when you are going and how crowded the resort is. I wanted to be guaranteed that I wouldn't get a parking lot view, so I upgraded to pool view. If I get upgraded to a savannah.. well, that will just be the cherry on top!

Upgrades at AKL happen a lot because there are so few Std. rooms...Generally the upgrade will be to pool view but frequently a savannah view will be garnered.

All that said, IMO, your best chance for an upgrade (at AKL especially) is NOT to ask, just be outgoing and friendly at check in. The AKL CM's seem pretty frazzled by people looking for freebies - yet they are very generous in doling out upgrades when available.

I received a free upgrade from standard to savannah without asking. At the time I didn't even know that was possible and thought the CM made a mistake.
