DH and I just decided on a last minute trip next Wed. :cool1::woohoo: We"ll be in SoCal for a wedding and couldn't resist. The entertainment rate is on so we are going to try and book a standard king room at HOJO. Are there any requests we should try to make as far as location? If that's not available, what about the standard double rooms? I read that the beds are bigger than regular full beds. How much bigger, and how do they compare to a queen size bed? This would be our first stay at HOJO so any tips are greatly appreciated. Another question about the entertainment rate- Do I have to actually have the card in hand or will they take the card #? I just bought a card on ebay that will be in the mail tomorrow. The seller sent me the number but I worry about the card not being here before we leave Tues. afternoon. I am going a little crazy as I don't usually do big things like this last minute but I am soooo excited!

Hi there! We are staying at the Hojo's for the first time this spring and I called them already on a few of your questions (I was wondering too!) Firstly, the standard double rooms have beds that are 6" narrower than a queen bed - they call them "over-sized doubles" and they assured me that those beds were recently upgraded to the new comfy pillowtops just like the queens are. I also got my entertainment card from ebay (It came really quick). You don't need the card to book your room on the phone, but you do need to actually show it at the desk when you check in or they won't give you the discount. I've heard that sometimes they don't even ask for the card, but I wouldn't risk it since their policy is that you have to show it at check-in. Hope that helps a little. Have a great trip!

Hojos is a great hotel. We have stayed there many times. Yes, you have to have the card to show at check-in to get the discount. As far as requests, if you opt for the king room, you might want to ask if it's possible to have a room in building 2. I know there are some king rooms in that building. I have always found that building to be very quiet.

basically--there are only 7 sizes of beds:

Twin extra long
Twin
Full (also known as a double)
Queen
King
Cal King
Eastern King

Hojos, like any of us, can only get those sizes of beds. (unless you are Brad Pitt and have a custom sized bed, which we are not).

Hojo's Double size beds are just Double sized. They may be overstuffed or extra fluffy, but they are still a Double, not a Queen.

I personally don't like sharing a double bed with anyone--because I find it too small. It's okay for me, but if there is anyone else in there (including a small child) it is still a pretty tight squeeze.

We like the 2 queen rooms at Hojos for this reason.

I agree double beds are not comfy to share.

The "oversized double beds" at Hojo's are actually classified a "Double XL" or a "Full XL." They aren't wider, but they are 5" longer than a standard double.

There is also a size called "Olympic Queen", which is 6 inches wider than the regular queen. Some hotels have these also, but very few.

Thanks for the replies. The person we talked to said there aren't any std king rooms in bldg 2. But I we didn't really want to share a double. Here's hoping that the freeway noise isn't all that bad. Looking forward to our stay though. First trip with no kids since our honeymoon. :goodvibes
