We got a really cheap flight for out THanksgiving day trip to Dinsey.. 98 bucks round trip. The flight isnt so great. It leaves at 1:30, flies to Philly, layover there and then a 2.5 hour trip to Orlando. We dont arrive until 6:30.

We want to try standby. Has anyone done this before?? I understand I have to buy a standby coupon. If there are 4 flights leaving before mine that I want to try to get on, can I try to get one them all? Or do I have to try and only pick ONE that I want to stand by on. If I cant get on the 7:45 am flight, can I then try to get on the 8:20 aM flight? What about my luggage? Im traveling with 3 kids, and my friend who is bringing her 3 kids. Do we check the luggage? Can I leave it where the stroller gets left? Or will they check it on say that 745 am flight, and if they do, and I dont get on that one, then what?

Lots of questions, Im sorry.. but I want to be informed of what I need to do :)

If you clear standby your seats will probably be scattered throughout the plane. Can you live with that? Are you willing to split your family on different flights?

You're not hoping to get 9 or 10 seats on the same flight are you?

That is a lot of people to try and fly standby together. They usually will not check your luggage until you are assigned a flight.

I don't think I would want to try standby with all those kids.

You could call the day before and see how full the planes are. Then you would have a better idea if you would be able to go standby.

I agree with Safetymom -- call the night before and check availability on the leg to Philly and the leg to Orlando. It's possible you could get standby to Philly but not to Orlando, and you wouldn't arrive any earlier.

That will be a lot of seats to try to get standby for. Standby is great for someone travelling solo or maybe a party of two, but a group the size you have with several children? Plus you'll be competing with any USAirways frequent flier program members who are trying for standby and they tend to get priority.

JMO, but unless USAirways says the flights you want to get standby on are open and there's a great chance you could get on, I'd stick with what you have.
