Any tips on what you normally do would be great.

How do you stake out your favorite spot for the parade? How soon should you pick a spot? If I choose the spot and my husband takes the kids off to enjoy and attaction or get a snack before the parade starts how would I be able to hold a spot for six people?

I guess my main question is are people usually considerate of others when they see that someone is holding several spots for thier family.

put a blanket down or line up jackets. the closer to go time, the harder it is. I suggest having your family there at least 20 minutes prior to parade time.

My favorite spot is on the balcony of the train station. However, you do have to get there about 2-3 hours before the parade. You can get chairs. The beauty of it is that you can take turns riding the train to pass some time. You could leave items in the chairs to "save", but I don't think you could save 5 spots if you are the only one there. That might be stretching it. But, you could save 3 spots, and have the little ones (if you have any) sit on the floor in front of the 3 chairs next to the railing. It truly is the best spot to view the parade and well worth the time spent holding your spot.

10 minutes or so before the start of the parade, show up right in front of the Frontier Trading Post. There is NEVER anyone here for some reason. The way it is roped off, there are raised wooden "squares" that you can sit on, and no one can get in front of you. Also, it is an area music transition point in the parde, so you will have 2 different audio feeds timed almost perfectly in stereo. My family has been using this same location for night parades since my first trip to WDW in 1983, and even during July crowds (which 11 of my 14 trips have been), there has never been anyone in this location.

Don't expect to be able to hold a spot for 4-5 people all by yourself. Holding a spot for one is do-able, but that many won't work.

Forget holding a spot by yourself. There are unbelievably rude people who will fight to take your spot. Don't fall for a single person who squeezes in and then allows her 7 children to squeeze in after you make room. Also, beware of the mom who plaintively asks permission for her dear children to stand behind you. She means 8 children who literally sit on top of your head and constantly kick your back in time to the music.
