Stains on baby clothes?

How do you get rid of stains on baby clothes? Mainly food. We use whatever branded powder is on offer, a fabric softner and I always put vanish in the baby clothes wash but still, so many of her clothes are ruined. Is it avoidable or inevitable? She usually eats her breakfast in her pj's and has tea naked so this just leaves lunch & snacks but it's still enough to wreck her clothes.

If i remember right mashed banana was the worst .
I could never get the stains out completely but washing them quick after being stained helped, but I just bought the biggest bibs that i could find and put them on.

Plastic bibs? Depends on her age but you can get bibs with waterproof backing, Tomee Tippee plastic bibs or bibs with sleeves. I had many little clothes ruined by orange-coloured food. I ended up buying cheaper clothes with a pattern.

Cheer guys,

I posted this all over the internet this morning and have got some great tips which i'll be giving a go.

She uses those all in one bibs but when she's having a picnic outside her legs are still free and she can still get easy access, with sticky hands, onto her front under the bib.

At the moment all her stained clothes are soaking in almost boiling water and vanish then i'll stick them on the hottest wash my machine will allow. If this doesn't work one other tip I got was Milton sterilising tablets, two hour soak then a normal wash so i'll try that next. Praying for some sun to bleach the stains a little!

Tomato based baby food stains will fade and even disappear completely if left in bright sun light (on the washing line or window sill).
