Staining a brick exterior?

Has anyone here ever stained a brick home?

We bought a house a little over a year ago and love it, except for the brick exterior. I love brick, but this brick has that white washed look that makes it look pinkish. We all hate it.

We were going to paint it, but not one house in our subdivision has painted brick. Plus, I like the look of painted brick, but I don't know what it would do to the value of our home (although, anything would look better than this pinkish crap, if you ask me).

I saw online there are some brick stains, but I'm wondering how they hold up and how hard it was to apply them. My husband wanted to try and do it ourselves.

Check out the HGTV website. I remember a show were they stained brick, I think it was Curb Appeal.

The problem with painting brick is you will probably have to keep repainting it.

I'm just so torn. I happen to love painted brick, but I know not everyone does and...do you think it would bother the neighbors?
