DD will be doing wash "alone" in a month:scared: and she has some very nice clothes that I don't want ruined by error. Anyone know of a website that has a Stain Guide with basic tips on treating common stains? MUCH appreciated;)

While I cannot advise you on your question, please advise your daughter to be prepared to stay in the laundry area while her clothes are there. Many college students learn the hard way that other students will remove clothes from the area to keep, as well as remove clothes and steal the machine that is already running. We learned this our freshman year and always had someone monitor our machines.

Send her off with some Zout! I love this stuff as it gets everything out- from chocolate to greasey stains.

First off, make sure she get some practice at home before she is doing it alone. Of course, it will be helpful to you, but it will also teach her the basics (you didn't say if this was something totally new to her).

She needs to know how to separate her colors (seems so simple but apparently no one ever told my DH!! ) Teach her how to pre-treat stains (which ones will need cold water and which will come out better with warm or hot). And tell her that if the stain didn't come out the first time, DON'T put it in the dryer. That will set the stain FOREVER. Maybe she could bring along a small drying rack. Also, no wool in the dryer unless she wants Barbie-size sweaters!

She needs to know to measure her detergent. Just pouring into the washer can be wasteful (by using too much) and it can cause the washer to overflow if waaay too much is used.

I personally swear by Oxy-clean laundry stain remover. It has taken out stains that Shout and Spray and Wash didn't even touch. Also a bar of Fels-Naptha soap and a small scrubbrush goes a long way.

That is all I can think of for now........................P

There is a great book called "Where's mom now that I need her?" that answers a lot of these kinds of questions and is great for anyone moving out on their own! It covers everything from cleaning, cooking, laundry, etc.
