Staggs named COO

Rumor has it that since Rasulo didn't get the job and his contract wasn't extended he will be leaving very soon.

Im so pleased that Staggs got the role. I guess that pretty much guarantees that Staggs will take over Igor when he finally retires.

I get the impression that Staggs is more of a Parks guy, saying that its not like they aren't putting money into the parks atm.

Well, it'll be interesting to see if he's a parks guy or not, he held the CFO title for 11 years, then flipped with Rasulo. So who knows.

I hope he is, but I guess we'll find out.

This is extremely disappointing...
Rasulo gave us:
Aulani
The two Dream Class Vessels
The new DCA
The New Hong Kong Disneyland
New Fantasyland
My Magic
Shanghai was in the works for years during his tenure. While Staggs sealed the deal, it was well underway before. Actually as early as 2006 I believe.

Staggs has given us:
Avatarland
Disneyland Paris Updates
Shanghai officially

Looking at the merit of these two's track record makes me nervous.

Also Rasulo was known to like resorts and other smaller ventures ourside the parks. The avenues that could've been explored there are dead. Some would say that's good, and they could be right. We'll just never know for sure.

They just torpedoed P&R's greatest friend.

Here's to the CFO CEO!

Rasulo's version of New Fantasyland wasn't built. It had Pixie hollow and the princess meet and greet houses.

Staggs version at least gave us the Mine Train.

Staggs is often spotted in the parks as a guest. Iger and Rasulo are not. That speaks volumes to me.

Let's see. Rasulo accomplished quite a bit with a booming economy when you could borrow money on a whim and people spent like it would never end. Staggs took over at the start of the country's worst recession in it's history and was still able to manage a re-worked Fantasyland, Avatar, NextGen and all the MDE, FP+ and data mining to extract more money from us while in the parks.

Considering the world they managed, it's hard to say either was a failure.

Jay Rasulo is likely leaving the company now

I'd actually prefer Staggs if I had to choose one. Now I'd really prefer someone else but it is what it is. I hope they get someone creative to head up parks and resorts now.

No, the recession started two years prior to their little switch. (According to economists, the recession was actually over by the time he took over. Though the theme park industry wouldn't fully recover for a couple more years.)

Call me cynical, but I'm not sure how he could've backtracked any of those projects. DCL was already underway with contracts signed, sight work was being done for DCL, Aulani was going, My Magic investments were there. Each one of the projects he "managed" would've been more expensive in the long run to cancel then continue. Staggs has overseen an unprecedented era of growth riding on the wave of Rasulo's projects. As for your comment about the recession, Rasulo showed reslove when he didn't cancel them at the first sign of trouble nearly a year and a half earlier. That was the opportunity, and he didn't wimp out to the benefit of the company. In fact, the opposite was true. As Horace pointed out, he sank money into a great potential project while the recession was at its worst.

I wouldn't call either a failure, but as a guy who would take risk Rasulo was the man. I'm going to miss this career D&R man who got no credit for the amazing work he did. It's a shame...

I suspect that meet and greet house was always a place holder of sorts.

Do you remember where they announced all the plans for NF? D23 2009. That was one of the times theme parks were at their worst performance wise. I think it was a way to keep their options open. If sales didn't end up recovering as quickly, they'd build just what they announced. If however the economy showed signs of life, they could easily just place the ride into the spot and over deliver beating expectations.

Of course a theory only, but one that fits with the time and place.

How do you know mymagic+ was already in the works prior to 2010? We didn't hear much of anything about it until rumors in 2012ish.

If Rasulo stayed we would have the mine train then NFL would've really been sucky.

It may fit but how likely is it we don't know. NFL still could've been better than it is.

"After more than three years in development and $1 billion in spending, the Walt Disney Co.

on Monday unveiled the central elements of its "Next Generation Experience," the sweeping, vacation-planning project aimed at getting travelers to spend more time and money at Walt Disney World."

This article was published Jan. 7 2013.
More then three years would place it safely in the Rasulo Era. Even after, he was known as an internal champion.

Yawn…

neither of them really lights the fire for me…
Staggs is more of a numbers guy based on his business history.

The last creative guy to be in a position of power at Disney was Eisner…that is now indisputable. He lost his mind and made the HUGE mistake of not getting somebody younger with his fire to replace him (if you believe every account every hinted, published, or told…he didn't want iger)…apparently he thought he'd live forever.

But eisner was a guy who developed school house rock, abc programming, and a slew of unconventional hits at paramount before coming to disney with an assist from Roy E.

I'm not trying to write a bio for an old exec…just saying do some research and check that background against staggs.

Disney has become what it is due to imagination far more than accounting. that's just the tale of the tape.

And Staggs has absolutely no experience in the tv media business. At least Iger has that.

At least Staggs has been seen in the parks and is known to be involved really well with them. Rasulo and Iger are never in the parks.
Under Staggs numbers have gone up every year. Under Rasulo up and down.

and there's no chance that staggs made sure he was "seen in the parks" to suck up as a strategy?

and that he'll go back to email, business symposiums, and stock accounting after he gets the corner office next to bashful?

that might just mean he's better at it than rasulo was….like a bishop instead of a pawn

I agree and I'm not saying either one is good but if I had to choose it would be Staggs.
