Stacie's Journey for Weight Loss and the 1/2 Marathon Jan 09!

Hi guys! Quick fly-by...

Matt update: He has an appointment w/ a neurologist in 2 weeks! Hopefully we'll get some stuff figured out get on the right path!

Training update: No aquacise last night. I had to work late! :sad2: Today I have a dentist appointment in Wilson, so after we'll train in my mom and dad's neighborhood. Hopefully we'll get to see my new 1 month old cousin too!

That's about it of for now...

Thanks again for all the well-wishes!

For any of you who don't know, I was on the event/competition board and came across a thread. I'm going to post the link for any who are interested in checking it out. It's about mom who ran the marathon last year and her 6 year old son wanted to run a "real" race this coming January. He's been training for the 5K. When she went online to register them, it was closed. They did get registered under a charity, but they have to raise money for it.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Yay for the weight loss!!! :woohoo: CONGRATS!

Sorry you had such a rough day. I know you're under a lot of stress...been keeping Matt in my thoughts. Hope the docs can figure out what's causing the seizures.

I hate that your foot went numb though. That's not cool! :sad2: Sneakers might be the issue..or maybe that leg is really tight (muscles) and you need to stretch more??? I don't know what to say about that...i do get on and off numbness in my legs. But it doesn't usually last. It sounds like a nerve is maybe being pinched? See if you can double your stretching efforts. I'm also a big fan of core work ;)....keeping a strong core relieves back pressure which can lead to pinched nerves which can lead to numbness in the legs. Do you have any lower lumbar pain at all? Hope you can resolve that problem...it doesn't sound fun.

I'm really proud of you Stacie! You are working so hard...I just know you are going to have a fantastic experience in that 5K!!! :thumbsup2

Thanks Amy! I will try stretching more. I actually did have some lower back pain while running on Monday. Maybe they are tied together??? Hmmm. Maybe I need to work on that core! :)

Hi Stacie, I am so sorry Matt had another seizure, I can only imagine how scary that must have been. I am glad you got an appt. with the neurologist and I hope you get some answers. I'll keep you and Matt both in my prayers.

That is awesome you had weight loss. 1.2 pounds is a good loss any week, but the week after Thanksgiving that makes it an amazing loss! Well done with that, I am really proud of you!

Good Morning all!

Got my training in yesterday after the dentist. Matt was exhausted so it was my mom and I. Let's just say--come May, she will be walking circles around us!!! She decided to start C25K, but since I was going to jog for 25 min, she thought she would just do what she could. I jogged most of the 25 min (took about 2 30 sec walk breaks). She jogged the first 5 min and then walked as fast as I was jogging! She would jog occassionally as well. She's 64 and is such good health!

We did get to see my new little cousin! He's getting so big! Oh, and his mom!!!! Oh, she makes me sick! She's just had a baby maybe 6 weeks ago and she looks fantastic! I think she's lost most of the weight! NOT FAIR!!! It's great for her, but man... :headache: I've never had any babies so I don't even have a good excuse! lol!

That's about it for yesterday!!! What do you guys have planned for the weekend??? We're going to NC Coast to the Waterfowl Festival. We've coined it Duck Fest! It's on Saturday. We're leaving Friday after work and taking some friends. My mom and dad are going too. I won't have time to get in Day 3 on Friday, but I think I will get up and do it on Saturday morning.

TTFN!
Stacie

Hi Stacie
Congrats on the loss
& on getting those 25 min runs in :thumbsup2
I'm afraid my weekend is just more packing!!! Yours sounds much more fun :goodvibes

You're doing brilliantly despite all the challenges being thrown your way. I've been following your training but not posted much- sorry! Good job with the 25min jog and getting your mum involved. If you're doing this well now what's to stop you from th 15km in may? Hey i'm just about to run my 5km race on sunday after about 9 weeks of training and apart from turning my foot a couple of times it feels ok- i'm registered for 15km in may :). Go for it, believe in yourself and you can do ANYTHING!!!!

Thanks for the encouragement!!!

Not too much too say today--I said it all yesterday! lol! :goodvibes

Hope everyone has a great weekend!!!
Stacie

Well done with that 25 minute jog! That is awesome you and your mom can train together, what a blessing for you both. Hope "duck fest" was just ducky, and that the rest of your weekend was a good one! Your jogging thing is making me think maybe I could try that sometime too. Of course first I must clear the junk of the treadmill...

Happy Sunday, hope you and Matt have a great one!

Hi Stacie,

Congrats on the loss and jogging for 25 minutes. You rock. I think it is great that your mom is joining you in the training. Go Mom! Hope the Duck Fest was fun.

Take care,
beth

Hi everyone! Hope everyone is well and happy! Did you have a good weekend???

So, Duck Fest :goodvibes was nice.

I got out there on Saturday morning to do my training. I ran around the "loop." Our mobile home is on a loop road. I guess it's 1.1 miles. I ran from the house around to the road and back for a total of 2.2 miles in 32 minutes!!! That included the 5 min walking warm up and about 2 minutes of walking cool-down. I did walk a bit more and stretch, but for the mileage it was 32 min! I was pretty happy with that. My dad went with me. We walked together the first 5 min, then I took off jogging. It felt pretty good! It was a beautiful day for outside exercise. The last few minutes I was feeling really good. I had picked up my pace and I almost felt like a runner! lol! :goodvibes I was so irritated though! Both of my feet started going numb again! ugh! If it hadn't been for that, it would have been great!

Today is Week 8. I'll be jogging for 28 minutes. I really hope today is a good run too. I think I seem to do better on my own than with someone else going with me. Sometimes it's hard to find my pace because their's distracts me???

Over the weekend our Magical Express stuff came in!!! We normally drive, but since it's just the two of us in January, we're flying. It said the luggage tags were included. Does anyone know...are these the vouchers??? I'm not exactly sure what to look for. If you guys have one, would you mind letting me know what they look like or posting a picture if it's not too much trouble? I just want to be sure we have everything...

Thanks everyone for continuing to check in on me! I appreciate you all so much!

Stacie

Hi Stacie,

Thats great you did the two miles so speedily! Good job, I am not a runner so I can't help you with numb feet solutions. Maybe that gets better over time as you adjust to running? In any case, you are doing great!

As for the ME vouchers, I believe the luggage tags are the things that have a sticky back and a bar code. If you post on the Transportation Board, you'll get an instantenous response from one of the experts! IN any case, I am pretty sure they have the sticky backing so that you can just wrap them around your luggage handles. They aren't plastic tags like a normal luggage tags. Your trip is close! And ME is very nice, sort of fun in fact, they play videos about WDW on the way to your resort, really gets you in the mood.

Thanks! Yeah, We've never done the ME before so I'm pretty excited about that!

Training update: Yesterday I was supposed to jog 28 minutes. That didn't happen. I started out, got about 5 min completed and decided it was too windy and cold. It was a very blustery day!!! I walked the rest of it. I just didn't have that extra push in me yesterday. I HATE jogging in the wind!!! It made just walking even difficult. I'm ok with not jogging yesterday. I just did 25 min on Saturday. I'll aquacise tonight and get back on track on Wednesday. It's funny. I made the conscious decision to NOT do it yesterday so I'm not upset about it. Had something come up and I couldn't have done it, I probably would have been a little irritated! lol!

Weight update: I'm down 1.4 lbs this week! I've finally broken into the 180s! Just barely, but I'm there! :woohoo: I would LOVE to be at 180 when I run the 5K. I just don't see it happening though. I would have to lose 9.8 lbs in 5 weeks. I just can't seem to manage more than 1-1.5 lbs per week and then it seems about 1 week every month, I'm up. My goal was to be down 20lbs (to 186) by then and that could happen, I just really wanted that nice round number of 180. The extra 6 would have been a great bonus. Plus we have some ressies and very tasty places so I know I'll probably put on a few lbs while there!

Hope everyone else's training is going well! Gotta run! It's time for breakfast!!! I'm starving!

Stacie

Hi Stacie :)

Sorry I've been MIA. It was so nice of you to stop by my journal this weekend! :goodvibes

I'm so happy for you! :cool1: Great effort on your 2.2 mile run this weekend. That is a HUGE accomplishment. I'm just sorry to hear your feet are still getting numb. Did you try new sneakers? I hate to say that..but sometimes the sneakers make a big impact. And good luck on your 28 minute session! I know you'll be able to do it. Can't say that I blame you at all for bagging on the windy run...wind is by far the hardest condition to run in (in my opinion anyway). I know you'll get out there and have a good one!

Final thought...How COOL that your mom is training with you!!! What a wonderful experience :). I just know that the May race will be such a cool event for you, Susan and your mom. :goodvibes

Hi Stacie!

Congrats on making it in to the 180s!! You've shown some amazing progress in such a short amount of time, both with your running and your weight loss goals. I sense a fun shopping trip to buy some new clothes coming up soon :) You are right on track with that 1-1.5 loss each week, it means you are losing weight safely and the right way. Great job!

And the wind...yikes...it's the absolute worst! (well unless it's behind you....) I saw some folks out there this past weekend in 20-30mph winds and just don't see how they do it. Times like that are what treadmills are made for. I think you made a very smart decision.

How long are you guys going to be in WDW in January?? Are you eating any place cool? I think a few of us need to get together to at least say hello while we are all there :goodvibes:

Hope you are having a good day!

Hi stacie I'm afraid my training just isnt happening :(
But i'm really glad yours is going so well :) & when life has settled down for me you will be my inspiration :)
Congrats on getting into the 180's :)

Thanks guys! It is very exciting that my mom is doing this. I think maybe I should have gotten the wide shoes. I'm going to try to losen them--again, and if they bother me tomorrow, I'm going to call Fleet Feet and see if I can exchange them... It's been about 2 months, so I don't know, but it doesn't hurt to ask right?

Yep. We've got some very tasty places planned out...

Thurs, Jan 10--Lunch at Sci-Fi then we'll be off later in the afternoon to the Wide World of Sports for packet pick up. Dinner at POP (We're staying at POP this time)

Friday, Jan 11-- 5K in the morning, then we're off to the MK for the day, back to POP for the 4:30 WISH meet then dinner at the Grand Floridian Cafe for dinner. (We may try to get to the food court at POP early as our dinner reservatons are 6:20 so that's not much time to meet/greet before heading off to dinner!)

Saturday, Jan 12--Lunch at Le Cellier and Dinner at O'hana

Sunday, Jan 13--No fancy lunches or dinners as we're heading back on Sunday afternoon.

I would love to get together to say hello and meet you guys!!! What are your schedules looking like? I'm sure most folks are staying past Sunday and that's when a lot of people will meet up. This was a spur of the moment thing for us so I didn't really know what to expect. We're going for a week in May and the first part of the trip is the Minnie Weekend. This time, it's just in to do the 5K, enjoy Disney some and back out. Matt's already over-booked all his vacation time next year! yikes! I wish we could stay for a few extra days in January to cheer everyone on and find out how well you guys did!!! I'm so impatient! I don't want to be waiting here by the computer for a few days! popcorn:: lol! Let me know what ya'll's schedules look like. Maybe we can work something out! :goodvibes

Is anyone already planning on Disney Marathon Weekend 2009??? I heard some folks say this may be their last for a while. Any of you guys?

Stacie

Hi Stacie! Congrats on breaking into the 180's!! That is great! Sounds like you have alot of great tasting WDW food to look forward to! I am jealous! LOL

Hi Stacie!!!

Wow...sounds like you have some COOOOL meals planned!!! :goodvibes

I would really like to meet you and Matt!!! Maybe we could say "hi" at packet pickup or maybe at MK on Friday :). Not sure if I'll make the Pop Meet on Friday b/c I have dinner plans elsewhere that night. But like you guys it's possible that I could stop in there before heading over to the studios for dinner.

Just a quick "fly-by" post to let you know I am SO PROUD OF YOU!!! You are doing great. Congrats on your weight loss - I think you are so going to kick butt at the 5K in January. Keep on keeping on, girl - you're doing it!!

Susan

Good Morning!!!

So just wanted to update you on my training last night... Matt decided to go play basketball since we didn't have to go to Wilson and I decided to go the gym. It was cold and windy yesterday! TM... here I come! lol! Anyway, so I'm the TM, listening to Matt's MP3 Player, zoning in on the TVs and the first 5 min feel great! I've done my warm up at 3.4 and come 5 min, I'm up to 4.3 which is a pretty steady jog for me. I know I'm booking it faster on the TM than I do outside. I'm feeling great! 5 min into my jog, I hit bottom. It's like my energy just left! ugh! I keep pushing... I am bound and determined to get in this 28 min jog! A few minutes later a faster song comes on and my energy picks up a bit. It seems like it's up and down the entire 28 min. I feel good, I like it, then Ugh, I hate this, why am I doing this. :confused3 So, I finally reach my 28 mins and back it back down to 3.4 for a steady walk. By the time I've reached my 5 min cool down, I've burned something like 360 cals. I thought, what the heck, I'm going to keep on going til I burn 400! So, I did 42 min, did 2.7 miles and burned 400 cals! Overall it was pretty successful! I felt good. :woohoo: At one point my lower back started aching and I got a cramp/side stitch for a few minutes and just wanted to stop, but I kept on pushing. I was coming in today and I was going to tell everyone that I did 28 min even if it killed me! :goodvibes

The feet started to get tingly, but never went numb. I think I am going to call Fleet Feet though and see if they can exchange my shoes.

So, you want to know what was on my playlist last night??? Started out w/ Low Rider ( I don't know who sings it. It always reminds of the movie Gone in 60 sec though!). It was a great song to start with. It really got me pumped. Then we're on to 50 cent, one of the techno mixes from Tomb Raider, some Elvis remix (A little less conversation) then to some Gwen Steffani (Holla back girl) and I can't remember what else. I definaly think the music helped. I guess I'm going to have to break down and get an MP3 player or IPOD. I just can't decide which one. I don't want to pay a lot for it. The IPODs are nice, but you can only use the Itunes right? We have some songs already and I want to be able to use them. I'll probably only use it mostly for training. Any suggestions???

Amy--We'd love to meet you too! We'll have to see if we can plan on meeting up somewhere. I really hope it works out! Packet pick-up/Expo on Thursday afternoon, MK any of that would work for us.

That's all for now!!! Hope everyone has a great day!
Stacie
