St Pete's Beach?

I am searching for the best option of a good family, swimming beach, and hotel. I have heard that St. Pete's is close and a good place to visit. Any suggestions on a clean, moderate hotel with a good beach location and any other inexpensive fun things to do in that area would be appreciated! Thanks!

We have stayed at St. Pete Beach twice. Be aware that it is a very shelly beach and hard for the kids to walk on. It also takes almost 2 1/2 hours to get there. Cocoa beach on the ocean side I feel is nicer and closer. If you do go to St. Pete we stayed at the Best Western on St. Pete Beach. It was reasonable, clean and right on the beach. The pools were fine but nothing fancy.
