St Petersburg hotel ideas???

I'm doing a triathlon in St Pete's at the end of April and will be flying into Tampa late Friday night and then flying out again Sunday. I won't spend much time in the hotel so basically I'm just looking for someplace clean and cheap that is convenient to downtown St Petersburg. Any suggestions? TIA

I'd try tripadvisor.com.

I haven't stayed in the St. Pete area in a hotel but if I did I'd probably try to get to Treasure Island. But I don't think that is real close to downtown St. Pete.

I live in St. Petersburg, and I usually send people to the Comfort Inn on 34th Street(also called US 19) The address is 1400 34th Street. It is not in downtown, but not far, I think my bil paid around $70 there last month. If you want to be in downtown, there is a Hilton, but it is probably a little more pricey. I would not stay in any of the cheaper places downtown, parts of downtown are not safe.

I'd look at the Hampton Inn & Suites downtown, it's probably only 2 or 3 years old. I've stayed there several times, good service and great location. I'd avoid the Hilton St. Pete Bayfront. Its pretty old and rundown, although I've heard they're going to be renovating it.

The best hotel is Renaissance Vinoy by the pier. We got it for New Year's Eve for $160 on Priceline. Beautiful hotel and rich in history.

Definitely a beautiful hotel with great service. But it really doesn't fit into the OP's want for something "clean and cheap". Clean, yes. Beautiful, yes. Historical, yes. Cheap, no.
