Another beach question -- We'd like to end our vacation with 2 days at one of the beaches around St. Pete/clrwater. I'm traveling with my 15 yo son and 16 yo daughter. We'd like to stay directly on a beach, at a smaller laid back type place, where you can cook out on a barbecue grill, play volleyball on the sand, etc. -- not a fancy high rise hotel chain or condo.

Does anyone know of such a place? I saw 2 possibilities while checking the internet -- the Thunderbird and the Plaza Beach Resort (both around st pete beach) Does anyone know anything about these places?

Any other suggestions?

I live righ outside of Clearwater, and thinking about that beach the hotels right on the beach do not have grills that I know of. Most of them are the Clearwater Beach Hotel, Adam's Mark Hotel, Hyatt, etc. I am not sure of any of them having grills. I will find out some more info for you. :earsgirl: :earsboy:

Any opinions on the Tradewinds Island Grand St. Petes Beach... Is is worth leaving Disney for !

Tradewinds in St. Pete Beach

Has BBQ grills or they use too!
They have a sister resort called the Sandpiper I'm not sure of that one.
I believe that they play Volleyball on the beach in front of the Sandpiper if I remember correctly. But it has been quite a few years.

Try looking them up on the computer. Maybe it will show up. But I do remember that they were not cheap. About the same as Disney $

Good Luck

I do think the reservationist mentioned grills when we called. My girls are 13 and 15 and they are very excited about staying here. There is also water trikes and other water toys availabe. The get the kids together at night for neon volleyball....they let them use glow in the dark paint to put on before they play!It isn°t a small resort but there is alot to do! Our rate for the end of Aug. is 238 a night but will be about 156 when the entertainment rate kicks in. This is for a beachfront parlour room. If you go onto expedia...they also list internet rates. The rooms come with a frig toaster and microwave so if you are looking to save a few bucks this is a great place!

:sunny: We just got back from a trip to Disney June 10 - 16, followed by a stay for two days at Tradewinds on St. Pet. Beach. We had a good time at the beach. They have Water trikes, volleyball, a huge slide on the beach, 3 pools for kids and an adult only pool, nice restaurants, and a little waterway around the resort that you can paddleboat through. The rooms were nice and had a refrigerator, microwave, toaster, and coffe maker. They also supplied plates, glasses, and utensils. The refrigerator was a larger than your average sized dorm refrig. You could easily make meals in your room. We have a 6 and 3 year old. Our friends have teenagers. All the kids had a great time. There are a lot of activities going on for kids. Our stay was so short, that we didn't have time to take advantage of the kids programs. I would say that the regular hotel price is steep. My husband was also attending a convention, so our rate was $120. And we requested a room without an ocean view. We really were not in our room for long. They have a website islandgrand.tradewindsresort.com

Has anyone stayed at their sister resort Sandpiper? Is it clean? How far is it from the Tradewinds Grand Isle?
