We are on the Eastern cruise in June 2003 and are trying to decide what excursion, if any, we should do at St. Maarten and would appreciate any report from anyone who has done one. We will be a group of 4 adults and 3 teens, (15,16,18).
You should look into the Golden Eagle Catamaran excursion. We went back in January 2002 (with about 30 other DISers) and had a great time. The boat ride to/from the beach is worth the price of admission.
And while on St. Maarten, please have a Guavaberry Colada for me.
We did the Regatta with the former Admiral's Cup Boats and had a whale of a time. This took place in the Morning.
Then we took a cab to the French side of the island. The cab was a 9-seated Dodge van, meticulously maintained and perfectly clean, the driver was very polite, drove safely and wanted $15 for two people and $20 for four when we joined some friends. This was one-way. We arranged a pick-up time with him and he returned right on time. We went to Oriental Bay, where we hired lounges and chairs. I think we paid $10 for two lounges, a table and a shade. All the lounges belong to bars and restaurants located at the wonderful beach. A beer was about $4 and a Coke about $3.
With a group of your size, taking a taxi cab should be much cheaper than one of the DCL excursions.

We also did the Golden Eagle Catamaran and loved it! One in our family did get seasick though due to the "wild" ride there and back but he is prone to seasickness.
