St. Louis Hotel

We would like to go to St. Louis in a couple of weeks and I need some suggestions on a good area to stay. I really do not want to have to pay for parking, but I also do not really want to have to drive very far to the museums either. What is a good area of the city?

I was thinking of using Hotwire, this is what I usually do. Does anyone know of any good places to stay that are in good location with free parking and free breakfast for a reasonable amount of money?

We are going to St Louis this weekend, we are staying at the Ameristar in St Charles bc my husband works for them and gets a discount, but it is a beautiful hotel and the rooms are all suites and it has a indoor/outdoor pool, but it may be further than you would like. What do you plan on doing while there?

You can use the metro link to get around town if you don't want to drive. Our favorite to stay at is the Drury Inn at Union Station but have stayed at all three.

We plan on going for a few days while on spring break. Our kids are 3,6, and 8, so we plan on doing some museums and things the kids would enjoy. I guess it also depends on how warm it is. I have only been through there, so really do not know what all St. Louis has to offer.

We recently got back from St. Louis and we stayed at the westin. It was so nice!! I got it for. 116 a night. Free parking and breakfast buffet included. I highly recommend if you can get it for a good rate.

Which museums are you planning on?

Magic House, Science Museum, City Museum, a visit to the arch or the zoo? My answer would differ depending on what you are planning for. Without knowing I might suggest Drury Inn near Forest Park. You would be close to the zoo and I think Science Center and kind of in the middle for going to Magic House which is further out of the city and the arch and City Museum which are downtown.

I've stayed at Drury at the Arch but you do have to pay for parking there since it's downtown.

We always stay Drury Inns. Free breakfast, free popcorn in the afternoon, free "happy hour" in the evening. We usually stay Forest Park too.


St Louis is our kids favorite place to go. City Museum, Grants Farm (free after parking), the zoo (free), Fitzs for lunch, botanical gardens, Magic House, the Arch.

We spend a lot of time in St. Louis b/c we love the area, have friends there, and most of my husbands family lives in Creve Coeur. The suggestions to stay near Forest Park are good, especially if you don't want to pay for parking. We always use hotwire for a hotel room there. We can often get 4 star downtown hotels for a low price. Last summer we stayed in a king suite at the Hyatt Regency at the Arch for $75/night. You do have to pay to park, but about two blocks down from the hotel is an inexpensive garage. The hotel is directly across from the arch/river on the back, and the old courthouse on the front. The location is awesome, easy access to everything.

Fitz's on the Delmar Loop is GREAT for kids. You can ask to have the giganasaurus sized floats split in two.

A tip for the City Museum - It's crazy in there. Lots of dark, tight spaces. I understand why people love it, but I was totally overwhelmed at first. I recommend making sure your kids have a watch and having a meet up spot. Most adults cannot comfortably fit in some of the tubes/mazes/caves/crawl spaces, so if you have a little one, I suggest having an older kid stay with them.

Definitely take advantage of all Forest Park has to offer. It's truly spectacular. Also, the farmer's market in Soulard is amazing.

If you are thinking of next weekend, my tip to you is to find and book before Sunday night. We are hosting 2nd and 3rd rounds of the NCAA basketball tournament (March 21-23). Since it's spring break season, people often stay longer. They will announce the brackets and destinations of each team on Sunday evening. The hotels book up after that.

We have stayed at the Marriott in Union Station a few times, but you will not get free breakfast unless you are Gold. You will have to pay for parking regardless. We have also stayed at the Renaissance downtown-same thing re parking and breakfast. St Louis does have a good train system and if you stay near the airport, you can take a shuttle from your hotel and ride the train to Forest Park, Union Station, the Arch, etc. You really can't get to Grant's Farm, but otherwise that would be the best budget option I would imagine. There is a Drury, Pear Tree by Drury that have free parking and breakfast. The hotels near the airport are cheaper than downtown. I have personally not stayed there-I have stayed at Marriott, but same deal as downtown on extras.

We live very close so rarely stay overnight but when we do we usually stay at the Drury Inn Union Station. Great hotel, and super close to the Metro station. We love it there!
