Hey all. I've just recently moved from Kingston, ON to St. John's, NL. My wife and I are headed to WDW in Sept/Oct, and I've started looking into flights. Not sure if there's anyone out there from this area, but flights are crazy compared to what I'm used to.
When we were in Kingston, we had the option to drive to Syracuse and save some money, or to fly from Toronto direct. Now, with no such options, the cheapest I can find is $1567.08, connecting through Toronto on Air Canada.
Since I'm new to flying from this area, I'm not sure if that's good, or if I should wait to see if something better comes along. Or how long I should wait.
Please help!

1500 for two? I would think that's not bad.

We lived in St John's for 5 years and I loved a LOT about the city. Hated how hard it was to go anywhere further than CBS. And ended up hating the weather...first time we went to Fl was when we lived in St John's, and felt compelled to buy summer. (And that's why so many Newfs need to escape to Florida annually!)

Good luck, I hope you get a decent deal.

Welcome to the Maritimes :goodvibes

I'm really not familiar with flights from NL however I know flights from Halifax to MCO are generally quite expensive to MCO unless you hit one of the rare deals..but they are out there. Last year we scored non-stop direct from Halifax for $440 R/T pp..that was for April. This year for our March trip we've opted to drive to Boston for $184 non-stop R/T per person. I honest can't imagine flights from NL ever being cheap.

Hopefully you'll get other replies with more encouraging information :)
Best of luck!

Thanks! What you both said is ringing fairly even with what the travel agent I've been dealing with has said. I was just curious as to whether or not she was just trying to get me to buy flights now to get it done.

I live in St. johns too. We are leaving for WDW in september 2011. We are waiting for seat sales, for a family of 4, I was told we can get to orlando with less then 2000 dollars.

First off - welcome to NL! We travel each year to Orlando, there are two of us. Usually we book on Aeroplan but last year we bought tickets. It cost $1500 for two taxes in at the end of April. My parents paid $1700 to go down last January. This year we are booked again for April but managed to get a deadly deal on Westjet for $1175 taxes in. That is the cheapest I've ever seen it.

Usually you are looking at anywhere from $1300 - $1700 for two to travel to Orlando. Although you should be able to get it cheaper than $1700. My only advice is to keep an eye on AC and WJ website for those crazy seatsale deals that may come through. While I absolutely love NL, it is a pain to get off the island for a vacay.

Hope this helps.

Travelled from St.John's last may as a family of four-my youngest child was not quite two so we didn't have to pay his airfare....cost us about $2800.Actually had it booked by now beacuse the travel agent had said we should. In Jan month westjet had a seat sale and i could have saved about $700.

We are booked again for may mth this year but still waiting on airfare so the same thing doesn't happen this year....plus we have one more ticket to pay for this year.Right now we are looking at over $3000.

Pretty sad really because hotel and park tickets don't even come to that!

Hmmm...no, I'm not from Newfoundland, but I've booked plenty of trips for my inlaws (who live on the west coast and fly out of YDF) to join us down south.

If it's just the two of you, there is a creative option that could save a bit of money: Fly to Toronto, take a bus to Buffalo, then fly to Orlando.

If you're flexible with timing, you can usually get a decent deal to Toronto in the fall (e.g. $400 round trip per person taxes included)...especially these days from YYT with the competition Porter has brought. In fact, if you fly Porter (and I've had great service with them), you'll land at the island airport right downtown.

From the downtown bus terminal, Greyhound offers regular service to Buffalo Airport several times daily. Then, you might be able to snag a great deal BUF>MCO...I've seen fares as low as $150 round trip per person, including the taxes! Great deals come up regularly on this routing with AirTran, Southwest and JetBlue. So, overall you may be able to get there for under $1200 for two.

You'll also probably need to plan an overnight stay enroute, either in Toronto or Buffalo, so you'll want to factor that in. Look at your specific dates and compare the potential savings...then, you'll need to decide if it's worth the hassle.

I know this post is a couple of years old but I was wondering if you had any advise for me. We live in NL as well and have traveled to Orlando for the past 6 years but always over summer vacation. For 2013 we decided to go over easter vacation. Any advise on when we should book the flights? We want to fly into MCO but home from TPA. Looking at prices now and its $1600 one way for the 4 of us. I know Easter is a much busier time so I wonder if flights will get more expensive from here or if a seat sale may come for Late March, Early April.

I would say as a general rule that easter fares arnt going to go on sale, they just dont have to, and leaving from yyt, you dont have many options, ac and wj, with only a few flights per day They have no reason to discount it because they know they will fill up regardless. So if your dead set on easter, book wj asap, as they use tier pricing, ie first seats to sell are cheapest, ac is not going to have a better price and youll pay what you pay because its easter, that time of year wj will probably have the direct to mco flight up, worth a call to wj and find out, at least your flught will be good, even if the price isnt the best
