My In-Laws are traveling that direction and need lodging for one night around this area. Has anyone stayed near here? I would like to set them up with a nice clean place to sleep.

It is so hard looking on line. I have found several places but I was hoping for some reviews or recomendations.

Nothing worse then getting to your reserved place and finding a dirty, unsafe icky place :scared1:

TIA

Many of the hotel chains, have come and bought out the small mom's and pops places -torn those down and built really nice hotels. Most are legit. I don't think we paid more than $75, but it was the day after Labor Day, so prices went down. I can't remember which one we stayed at, "Comfort Suite" I think. I wanted to face the water and all the rooms faced the water. There was a bon fire at nite too, which was really fun.

Does Comfort Inn Beachside sound right? I saw a picture of that one and it looks like everything faces the lake.

Are they open to staying on the Mackinaw City side of the bridge? There are more hotels on that side.

They are traveling from WI and going down to Mancelona and then turning around and heading back home. They were hoping to get a couple of hours driving in after then leave Mancelona. This way their drive home on Sunday will be shorter.

I found a Comfort Inn in Newberry also.

You could check out Tripadvisor.com for reviews...sorry I can't be more helpful, but we were camping when we were last in that neck of the woods. And regarding Mackinaw City--it's really only about 5 miles south or so of St. Ignace, south side of the bridge, so it wouldn't change their driving time all that much if they chose that option. Good Luck! :)

We stayed at the 'Budget Host' motel, it was very nice, clean and quiet.

From my AAA book:

Best Western Harbour Pointe
Budget Host Inn
Comfort Inn
Days Inn Lakefront and Suites
Days Inn St Ignace
Holiday Inn Express Lakefront
Kewadin Casino Lakefront Inn
Quality Inn Lakefront
Rodeway Inn
Super 8 of St Ignace

I would highly recommend you inlaws drive over the bridge and check out Mackinaw City. There are tons of nice hotels, plus lots of neat shops and restaurants. It has a much more resort town feel to it than St Ignace.

My entire family lives in St. Ignace. Your best choices are:

Comfort Inn Beachside or Holiday Inn Express, both on N. State St.; or the Quality Inn St. Ignace on Boulevard Dr. (it's actually on the corner of Blvd. Dr. and US-2 just as you come off the bridge). I have stayed at all of them, and they are clean and nice. The Quality Inn is probably my favorite as it's a small hotel, very well maintained, right near the highway entrance to the bridge/I-75, very reasonably priced, and is next door to a Big Boy that's opened even in the winter.

Next to a BIG BOY!!!!:cool1: WOW!!!! I will have to call the Quality Inn for availability and prices. They haven't been to a Big Boy in ages.

I don't even know yet though if this is far enough down the road before they want to stop. I don't see lots of big towns an hour or so further out toward WI.

Thank you everyone!! My search continues.

Tee-hee :) . Yeah, I know it's not exactly fine cuisine, but my point was that it can be hard to find restaurants that are opened in the winter up there, so when you go and stay in a hotel it's kind of nice to have one nearby. That chocolate cake/ice cream/hot fudge thing is delicious at 11 at night around the hotel pool.

There isn't for about 2-2 1/2 hours in Manistique. There are some hotels there plus there is another Big Boy.

Our favorite place to stay up there is the Best Western Harbour Pointe Lakefront. It has a variety of rooms and is very clean. It has a nice pool as well. We have stayed there about 5 times.

I called Comfort Inn Beachside - Closed for the season

I called Holiday Inn Express - Closed for the season

I called Best Western Harbor Pointe Lakefront - Closed for the season

Quality Inn is open but a room is $79.96 plus tax

I will keep calling. I was hoping for something cheaper :sad2:

I see my dh posted, McDISer, leave it to him, not to know where we stayed. We stayed at the Comfort Inn. They had a continental breakfast in the morning. We also ate at Big Boy. I don't mind it, but we were at Mackinac Island all day and my dh refused to eat on the island. We were going to eat at a Jamaiican Resturant and he was to worried about getting on the Ferry back over. He made me ride our bikes all the way around the island, and he was to cheap to stop and eat.

Your parents should look into taking the Badger Ferry back to Wisconsin. It only takes 4 hours, vs. the 10 hours it takes to go all the way around.

I saw the post about St. Ignace and clicked on it because I live in Mancelona, in the lower Peninsula!!

Then as I scrolled down, I see your in-laws are coming to Mancelona!! How cool!!:cool1:

My BIL purchased a 6 wheeler on Ebay and my in-laws are driving over with a trailer to pick it up.

OhMari - I will check into the ferry. Does it run year round? They are going next weekend.

dustya21 - small world huh!

As it stands right now I will be making reservations for them tomorrow at the Quality Inn.

Thank you everyone for your help.

Any time I have a question I alway say "Oh, I will post on the DIS - they will have the answer!" My DH laughs but I always find the info I need. :worship:
