St. Augustine

I love St Augustine...My ex teacher/friend lives there...there is alot to do..The lighthouse and the "Old Town" area that you can walk the entire street..

When are you going...I can email my friend and ask him to recommend some restaurants

You can take a tram tour. You are allowed to get off/on at stops, but you don't have to do that. It's an interesting area, we got off/back on at the Fountain of Youth.

I don't remember any particular restaurants, but we ate at a nice one on a rooftop.

Bobbi :flower:

I don't have any recommendations for you, sorry, but wanted to say that my parents went there at a point when my father was very very ill......and they still had a wonderful time.
I'm telling you this because I KNOW they had a "lazy" vacation there, what with my dad not being able to do much.

If it's you going, have fun. I hear it's an interesting place to visit, lots of history!

You can drive along the beaches and stop wherever you feel like. That seems kind of "lazy" to me.

You can also shop and explore Old Town. Nothing hurried about that.

I remember some restaurant on a pier down the street from the wax museum...it's been 25 years since I was there. I also remember my parents making me sit in the bottom of town hall to watch a movie about the oldest town in the country...I was 10! :crazy2:

I'm going for our 25th Wedding Anniversary from 2/5-8/2006 staying at a B&B. This will be our very first time going. Some of the things we will be doing is the tram tour and the walking ghost tour (from what I hear a must from alot of people).

DisneyDmbNut I also would LOVE the names of the rest. I have some picked out from a web site I've gone to and would love to know how they really are. They are: A1A Ale House, Gybsy Cab Co., Sunset Grill, Salt Water Cowboy and 95 Cadove.

Which B&B...and old friend's ex-MIL owns the Penny Farthing inn..

I will email my friend..when I get an answer, I will post

We're going Thursday - staying at the St. George Inn - Christmas present from my kids. I googled St. Augustine restaurant reviews and came up with Schooner Seafood House.

There used to be a restaurant on the water that was really good. As far as I know, it is still there. It wasn't cheep, but it was worth the $$. (and it wasn't way overpriced either.) They have little cut outs where you can drop your leftovers, etc. to the fish below. I'm sorry I don't have the name of it, I will try to think of it. It was right in the middle of things.

St Augustine is a great place to visit. I can't reccommend too many of the "lazy touring" things, we have always walked.

Have fun!!

Have a great time and let me know what restaurants you tried. I just read it 's one of the best dog friendly cities...great news for us since we travel with our bulldog, Winnie.

Hi, we rent a condo every year for the last 9 years at St. Augustine Beach and it is a wonderful place to be. Old town is great you will love all the old shops there. The restaurants..........Salt Water Cowboy - a little out of the way but great food, go early it gets very busy on the weekends. Gypsy Cab - ok, you could skip it not anything to write home about. A1A ale house - good food, nice atmosphere. Sunset Grille - the original had burnt down and they had to rebuild, don't know if it is the same people that own it or not, haven't been there in a long time. Another nice place is the Oasis bar and grill. Small but great food for lunch and nice atmosphere. All of these places are not like your franchise restaurants, except for A1A they are all small quaint little out of the way beach places. The beaches are beautiful so if you have the chance, drive out onto the beach and take it all in. Have a great time, it's a wonderful place to relax.

Near the old town district is a great place called Harry's they have wonderful food and you can sit outside on the patio with the trees and the lights, it was wonderful. I had the jumbalya and it was terrific.

There is a bakery that has the best grilled Cheese and tomato sandwich I have ever had there in the Old City too.

EDIT: Going to see the Fountian of Youth is fun also.

We're staying at the St. George Inn after our Disney trip in May! We're also interested in good food and lazy sightseeing. I hope you enjoy your trip!
:sunny:

We always stay out on the beach, last summer at the Hampton Inn and the summer before at the Holiday Inn. The first year we did the trolley tour and they had a beach bus that picked us up and took us into town included in the price. Last summer we just drove in, about a 5 minute drive. Out on the beach, we ate at the Sunset Grille and Mango Mangos. In town we ate at Scarlett O'Haras, Pizza Alley and a grill type place inside a toy store right near the bridge.
