St Augustine to Disney?

I can fly from Columbus Ohio to St Augustine for $10 each way but I'm wondering what it would cost for a cab from there to Orlando or if anyone has any other options. Total round trip with taxes is about $40 so for my DW, DD and me its about $120 total, I paid $506 total to fly into Orlando on Southwest in September. So it would save me $386 but a car rental for a week would be about $250 so that takes my savings down to $136, not sure if it would be worth the extra drive for that. If I rent a car for just a day and drive to the Orlando airport then take ME it cost about $75 for the car rental for one day but then have to transfer all the luggage and rent the car again on the way back so it would be $150 for the car rental so it would save about $236 but would be a big pain to transfer all the luggage and drop the car off. So any ideas?

I was going to do the same thing. IF I was going to rent a car, it would've worked out fine (be careful as they have 2 flights into St A now, and one doesnt arrive til 10pm and pretty sure no rental place is going to stay open til 10pm for that). If you arent going to rent a car to do other off site stuff, IMO just fly SW if you can get decent priced tix. That's what I'm doing now. When I was planning on going to the space center, or sea world I wanted a car. But when I looked at it, I would be PLENTY busy at WDW so just flew into MCO and forgot about the car and the skybus tix I had bought.. I got lucky and my times were right when they were changing the 1 flight a day til the 10p one and before the date they were starting the 8am arriving flight. So I actually got my money back from skybus since they changed them that drastic :)

To answer your questions it's between 2:15 and 2:30 to magic kingdom from St A according to google.. So you need to plan for a 2 1/2 hour trip. Folks say a taxi from MCO to WDW is about $50 or so, and that's not far from each other, so I'm sure a taxi from St A to MK would be pretty expensive.

This is the big disadvantage with the "outlying" airports. Really your only option that won't break the bank is a car rental. A cab is going to charge you for a round trip since he/she has to get back to St. Augestine. They can't pick up in MCO since they aren't licenesed there and vice versa on the return. Towncar is going to do the same thing.

Other posters have indicated that Enterprise has stated they will be open to meet all Skybus planes. You might want to call and verify if your flight arrives outside of thier posted hours.

I'll be darned.. I just checked enterprise and put in my dates 12/8 - 12/15 and http://www.enterprise.com/car_renta...d=WebTransaction1&viewSelectedLocationId=4379 (if that pulls up) you can pretty much see the day that skybus changes their flight times :)

Good for them, they are really trying to make this work out for everyone..

Personally I think you are absolutely crazy for wanting to land in St. Augustine and going to Disney. I would love to meet the marketers who have convinced you to fly into St. Augustine. One thing is that you will save no money going that route. You will spend the saving in other ways real fast. Second it is a 2 to 2 1/2 hour drive from there to WDW.

Third thing is if they fill that plane up with $10 passengers they will not have enough to pay for fuel. 120 passengers at $10.00 equals $1200.00 which will not buy enough fuel to get you there. Most airliners burn about 700 gallons of jet fuel an hour. Jet fuel is about $3.00 a gallon, maybe more.

Skybus sells 10 seats for $10 on each flight, the other seats are priced incrementally higher. Plus you pay for checked baggage, food, etc.

OP, we fly Southwest out of Columbus all the time, to either Orlando or Tampa. If you watch, you can get really cheap fares. We just came back from Orlando and paid $30 each way.

Skybus sells the first 10 tickets on each flight for $10 then they go up, the whole plane is not sold at $10 seats. Also nobody is trying to convince me to fly into St Augustine, I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas. It would save me almost $400 if I didnt have to rent a car, worth looking into for me.

Well, you need to get informed.. only the first 10 seats on the flight are 10 bucks.. If you were going to rent a car, why wouldnt you spend $80 on 2 RT tix from CMH to St augustine (including all fees) as opposed to minimum for like SW from CMH to MCO of $60 each way pp plus fees (I just dont see $49 SW tix often from CM) So that's going to be about oh, $270 or so probably with fees and all. so with the right codes, right there could be your car rental or a large chunk of it. People will fly into other ports 2 hours away but not very often do they call them silly (or darn near stupid) for wanting to do it. The 'marketers' are Skybus, and I'll admit it really only works if you are in ohio or close to the airport they fly into in the NE that will start flights to FL from there, and not originate from CMH..

Oh yea. I need to add $20 to my trip for 2 bags @ $5 each bag/ each way..

I'll agree if you arent getting a car (which is what changed me from skybus to St A to SW to MCO) then the savings may not be there..

We flew Southwest and got tickets for $69 each way which was still a pretty good deal, but $30 would have been GREAT

I agree, I've seen a ding once I think for CMH to MCO and it was $59 and well before our dates..

Have you ever had a ding for CMH to Las Vegas? I'm going in Jan and have been looking but have never seen one and right now tickets are about $400 on Southwest or $260 on US Airways.

Well, they don't REALLY fill the plane up at $10. There are VERY limited numbers of $10 seats.

And do you think that any of the other "bargin" fares you see on here cover fuel costs? $59, $69 etc.... does not even cover costs...

It's not really the passenger's job to worry about the airline making money. Now I proabably wouldn't fly Skybus. The limited planes, limited airports, no interline agreement, etc are a turn off. If "the plane" breaks you are stuck LOL!

(By the way St. Augustine is a very lovely city. If you have time spend a few hours there!)

They do have dings to Vegas. They actually had one last week because my DH is in Vegas right now on it. :lmao:

OK thanks. So with taxes and fees probably around 230 total so I think I'll just go ahead and book US Airways now since its only about a $20 difference.
