I have rented points for SSR June 24-30 and since have seen that many people do not like this resort for some reason does anyone have any information on this for me as to why it is not liked, or HOPEFULLY why you liked it? Also are there any things I should request as far as walking distance because we will be using the bussing system. Just please tell me anything you know about it so I will be prepared (it is my first DVC stay).

Here is a fairly recent thread and I haven't read it all, but I think you can get a good idea about SSR if you read this:

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1038244

We have stayed at SSR, and we liked it, but we only stayed for 1 night and so I don't have much to offer you.

I think you will have a wonderful, wonderful vacation! What size villa are you renting?

We stayed at SSR in January and loved it! :thumbsup2 It is a beautiful, peaceful resort. This was our first visit as DVC members, and we were thrilled with the extra space, kitchen, washer and dryer, etc. etc. etc. The rooms are new with, we thought, very attractive decor. Ours was super clean, too. We stayed in the Springs section very close to a bus stop, the main pool, the spa, and the Artists Palette. From there we walked to both ends of DD. The Congress Park area is closest to DD if that's what you want. Bus waits ranged from 0 minutes to 20 minutes. I think it's just luck. We are trying BWV in June and only hope to like it as much as we liked SSR. Relax and have a great vacation! :sunny:

we just got back from SSR (our home resort). This was our first trip and we loved it.

We were in Congress Park, which is right near a bus stop. I think what is most complained about is the bussing system. We had absolutely no problems. We did wait about 20 minutes for a bus to MK one morning but that was the longest.

My kids love the FUN pool but I have to say that they enjoyed the quiet pool near our building just as much if not more.

My only gripe with SSR is no table service rest. ARtist Palatte is all right and food is good...but we didn't like it as much as we had hoped. But that is the great thing abuot being at SSR - you are so close to DD. We went to DD for dinner and ate at Rainforest, Ghiardelli, and Raglan Road (By the way the BEST food we had the whole time we were there)

We worried about being too far from the Parks but after being at SSR one night we just fell in love. It is quieter than BWV but I believe each resort has their own pros and cons.

Don't be too worried about SSR. I found that it wasn't as BAD as some people said it was....in fact, we are going back in June !!!!

We stayed at SSR last June and are booked to stay there again this June. We absolutely LOVED it. We, too, used nothing but the busses (and monorail) for transportation and had no problems at all. SSR is a LARGE resort and it really depends on the building in which you are staying. Some are close to a bus stop but far from the main desk, while others are near the main pool, it really doesn't matter to us because we enjoy the leisurely walks to and from the room to the store to the bus to DTD, etc... The pool is WONDERFUL and was not crowded any of the two weeks we were there. My DW and DD felt safe in walking from our room to the gift shop after dark without me and we were on the far end of SSR. Hope you have a WONDERFUL time !!

Welcome home! I'll be there myself for our second stay since buying SSR June 25-28!

I think folks don't like it as much because of its location and the lack of a sit-down restaurant.

Personally, I think it's great! it isn't the closest to the parks (in fact we are splitting our stay with BCV for that and the pool).

As for the restaurant, they are building one now, and the counter serice was pretty good. We tend to eat in the room when back at the resort anyway. Dowtown Disney is a walk or boat ride away (which is why they initially didn't build a restaurant).

I do not think you will hav a bad time there. It is quite beautiful.

We were there last March and will be returning this April. I'm hard pressed to think of anything wrong with the place but will see this year if it still is as nice as I remember. I did stay at the Wilderness Lodge a few weeks ago and liked it but at SSR it is much easier getting out of your rooms All the doors are outside so it doesn't feel like a hotel but a condo. Just don't be in a hurry to see everything. You will miss the surroundings.

Just renting a studio. It will be for my honeymoon. Thanks for the info.

What a wonderful place for a honeymoon! We stayed in a studio as well.

SSR is a great resort. We stayed at Congress Park and loved it. I hav booked two additional trips to this resort.

Please keep in mind that many people who post on here spend a lot of time and energy thinking about DVC and planning their next trip. We stayed at SSR and BCV in February, and I honestly went overboard trying to get everything "perfect." I hope I won't ever do that to myself again.

If you analyze and nitpick the "where to stay" issue to death, you may run the risk of taking a lot of the fun out of your vacation. I personally would like to see an end to the whole "which resort is the best" mentality and just relax and enjoy all the resorts. I mean, they're all pretty great, aren't they?

You sort of have to trust me on this; Give yourself a wedding present and upgrade to a one-bedroom. With the king bed & huge jacuzzi bath, those units make an absolutely perfect honeymoon suite.

We own at Old Key West, but we decided to go in January and the only availability by the time we decided (December 31) was SSR. We really loved it. I had the time of my life. Everything is so nice and brand new. We stayed in the Springs section and it was a short walk to the bus stop and to the pool. The couch in the studio had a much better fabric than the couches in the 1 bed room at Old Key West. The room was beautiful. I loved the comfy pillows. We did open the couch and try it for future reference when we would bring our kids or someday grandkids, and it really was pretty comfortable. I'm sure as newlyweds, you won't be needing it rolled out. Its nice to have a couch to sit on instead of another bed. You will really enjoy yourself! It is so beautiful there. And congratulations!

We were there for 5 nights in a studio in 10/05, and loved it! :thumbsup2
We even liked Artist's Palette!

My DH and I stayed at SSR for the first time end of January since purchasing in 2004 in a 2br with my DD21 and her BF24 + his parents. :) at Congress Park. We were extremely excited once we arrived. We felt truly "at home" for a week and took great pride in having ownership here.
I have absolutely nothing even remotely negative to say about this place, only very positive. DVC has a winner here in my book.

If you like it peaceful and serene....
If you like to take walks and enjoy the scenery...
If you like to sit on the balcony and take in the beautiful view ...
If you like to frequent the excellent shopping & dining options at DD...
If you like hotel furnishings that are elegant yet cozy & comfortable ....
If you like beds that let you sleep like a baby...

Then SSR is the one for you.

As soon as we got back from our trip we booked SSR again for October and we can't wait to get back there. :thumbsup2

Congrats, you will enjoy it there.

We loved it as well! We stayed for the first time in August 05. It was our first visit as new DVC members. After we had purchased our points in SSR I started to get REALLY worried that we had chosen the wrong resort (going by so many negative posts). So happy to say that (for us) it was a great match. We stayed in Congress Park & it was so easy to walk over to Downtown Disney anytime we wanted. This was also great to catch buses to any other hotel for meals & stuff.
We were there at a quieter time of year & seemed to have the SSR buses to ourselves most of the time. The only thing we didn't like was the food offerings (in general) at Artists Palette. Going by these boards most people seem to want a sit down restaurant - well call me nuts but I would like to see more of a food court type situation (like at Pop Century). Overall, we loved this place so much & can't wait until next year when we can visit again! All the best for your wedding day & have a brilliant time at WDW!

I really enjoyed SSR in January. We were there for 1 night in a studio. I liked it so much that we are staying there this month for 5nights in a 1 bedroom. I am so excited. The pool is lots of fun. I think I enjoyed the slide more than my DD! Can't wait to go back!

You will have a wonderful time! Congrats on your wedding!

We are considering a DVC at SSR. I have only seen the resort from a distance. I like this resort for pretty much the same things you point out i.e. its quite and close to DD. I can't recall how close, can you walk? Also, is there a golf course nearby?

Thanks
