Hi

My DD9 has myositis (a muscular disease), so she cannot walk long. We stayed in SSR once but it was under construction so we were in what I think is Springs.

This time we shall stay in a 1bedroom for 12 days and I try to find the best place to ask for ie : a room close to the main pool, close to the bus stop and not too far from the pathway to DD (so that us parents can escape when the kids are asleep...)

I saw on this forum that the Grandstand Area has a own themed pool, is it good? Does it have a slide?

Thanks for your help

let member services know what your daughter's disabilities are. They will notate on your reservation what your needs are. You will have preference over someone without disabilities.

The Grandstand section is not open yet. Should start to open up in the next few months.

I have rheumatoid arthritis so I empathise with the inability to walk long. I'm more limited now so I use a power wheelchair to get around outside the villa.

I think the Springs is the closest place to the main pool and food court area. Grandstand, I've been told, is scheduled to open it's first buildings this Spring (like March/April). There's a pic in the SSR Lovers thread in Mousellaneous.

The map shows those first Grandstand buildings seem close to its pool and pool bar area. Also closer to the walkway to the ferry.

I think I'd still go for the Springs area. My building was the one in the middle. Bus stop right there and the pool across the street. Very close to me.

The areas that are closest to the main pool are farther away from the pathway to DD, so you can't get all the things you want.

We stayed in the Springs area on our last trip. It was across the street from the main pool area and there was a bus stop very close by.

Since you say your DD can't walk distances, you might want to consider renting a pediatric wheelchair or a special needs stroller for her. That way, you won't have to worry as much about distances. You can find information in the disABILITIES FAQs thread on the disABILITIES Board.

Another thing to consider if you stay at the springs is although the path to DTD is far awy you are close to the boat to DTD, not much farther than the pool. Agree with Sue M a wheelchair might be a wise choice and for 12 days I'm sure it's cheaper to rent for your entire stay than get one every day at the parks. Most if not all the bus's are wheelchair friendly. DD can get out when she wants to if able and the chair will be available if the days activities start to wear her down. There are off site rental agencies if Disney can not meet your needs. Just post a question on disboard and you'll get all the leads you need within hours of asking. God Bless and enjoy your trip
