SSR & welcome home trip

We're doing our first DVC trip in August with my in laws to celebrate their 30th wedding anniversary. We got 2 standard studios and was wondering what are your best tips for which rooms we should request!?

• We're doing a resort only stay so ideally we'd probably want to be near the boats to get to DS. (And hopefully near a f&b place on property to get food and refills easily)
• Are golf course views considered preferred views? My in laws will be golfing so it'd be a nice treat to have a view of the course

(I know there's an SSR thread but I go so overwhelmed looking for tips and tricks. One of these days before the trip I'll read through it )

Saratoga is not a place where Standard or Preferred is about view. It is location.

Preferred is at Springs or Congress Park.
Standard is Grandstand, Paddock and Carousel.

For Standard some people like Grandstand, it is closer to the main building. I am a Paddock girl. Good pool, not a bad walk to the main building, not a bad walk to Disney Springs.

For your purposes you will be fine anywhere but Carousel I think.

Typo - Grandstand is Standard location. Building 85 in Grandstand is very close to Carriage House. The Grandstand buildings are also next to the golf course, so you could request “golf course view” for your Standard studios.

I agree with auroraborealis that one of the best standard areas is Paddock, with a near pool request, which location would also give a tolerable walk to Disney Springs, shorter than than any walk from other standard areas. However, if being closer to the clubhouse and possibly having a golf course view is preferred, then the Grandstand area (with some rooms overlooking a couple golf holes) would be the choice. From that area there would be a very long walk to DS but not a bad walk to the boat dock where you can get a boat to DS (when they are running; don't know whether they are yet).

Does anyone know if the refillable mug station is open at grandstand? I heard that was closed before. I also read that it’s rarely open.

The refillable mug station was always open, the pool bar there was rarely open there. They are right next to each other. I would think if it was closed due to Covid it is back open. I have heard OKW is now allowing you to do refills at Goods. It was probably the last to do it due to the close quarters there.
