We are planning on going down to the World July 10-15. This will be our first trip with my 2year old DS. We currently have ressies for a 1BR at VWL. I thought hey, it is close to the MK. Now, I am thinking that we should stay at SSR, our home resort, because of the zero entry pool, and the variety of activities offered at SSR. We will have a car, so I am not worried about transportation too much.

What would you do? SSR or VWL :confused3

Since SSR is your home resort, you shouldn't have any trouble getting a room there in the future. I would take advantage of the opportunity to experience one of the other DVC resorts and VWL is beautiful!

Since you are already booked at a resort that is difficult to get into at the 7 month window, I would definitely keep that reservation and do SSR next trip. You will love the convenience to MK, and transportation to the other resorts from there via bus is good too.

I agree with Disneydiane. You will have a great time.

Well, I have stayed at the WL and really liked it. I just want to make sure that my boys will be able to enjoy themselves. I imagine we will be at the resort quite a bit since this is a last minute trip.

I am just trying to make an informed decision.

I agree with the others. I would go with VWL with the 2 yr old. The boat ride to MK is great and the pools are very nice.

Finally; an "In Defense of VWL" thread. SSR defenders - take five!

No kidding, new subject. You will love having a food court (open until midnight also), also the short walk to fill your mugs, the peacefullness, take a boat to CR for Chef Mickey, Artist Point Steak, All you can eat Barb-b-que, 7 seas fishing or boat rentals, the main pool and hot tubs are great, read a book way up near a fireplace in the lobby, raise the flag on the roof in the AM, watch the geiser and the water parade at night. :jumping2: :jumping2: :jumping2:

I will throw in these pros for SSR and I know it's not the most popular girl in the school, but....................

Not only do they have the zero entry pool, but they also have the little slide and the Donald Play area with popjets that little ones love.

I will assume with a 2 year old, you will have a stroller. SSR has great paths(as does VWL) and it would be easy to stroll through DTD where there are lots of hands on stimulating activities/sights and also a boat ride. Lots of pretty flowers too.

The Congress Park playground is great fun for little ones and is on a soft play area and not sand like VWL. Sand is good and Sand is bad. You know your 2 year old so you will have to decide.

Since you stated you will not have much park time, I would consider all the Resort activities. I personally would not take a 2 year old to Artist Point but that's an individual choice. And I wouldnt necessarily call Roaring Forks a Food Court but again......... :teeth: You will have room service at VWL so if that's important to you.

The parking at SSR will be closer to your unit also. We were at VWL 10 nights last December and then moved to SSR for 6 nights. We always rent a car. I really appreciated the parking at SSR although we really enjoyed our stay at VWL.

Yes, you hold a coveted ressie at VWL, but if that's the main reason you are keeping it, then you may regret it if it doesnt suit your planned activities for this stay.

Im in the same boat, as I am considering giving up half our sold out BCV studio next month to stay at SSR because the second half of our trip will be more DQ and Waterparks. I hate moving so we may stay put, but I have a feeling I will regret it when we are driving back and forth to DTD every day instead of a nice stroll.

SSR has DVD players, VWL has VCRs again if this is important to you.

Decisions, Decisions!

Well, that lasted a long time. :confused3

With little kids I would think VWL would be great. They have a cool main pool, that gyser thing, a fun restaurant for kids that is right IN the resort, MK is REALLY close (most little kids fav park). Great room service if you want to eat in because your 2 year old is in meltdown mode (I don't think SSR has this). I'm sure you'd have a great time at either place, have fun! :flower:

The OP asked for input on the 2 resorts. How can one make an informed decision with only one side of the story? I personally would not find that helpful unless both sides weighed in. I did not bash VWL and only told the truth about SSR in comparison.

It is the OP's decision and I won't feel like either Resort "won or lost" What's important is that they make the right decision for their family because it is their vacation.

Really, so claiming Roaring Forks is not necessarily a food court is telling the truth about SSR? :sad2:

I am not defending VWL or SSR, but just wondering why you don't consider Roaring Forks a food court? Thanks!

I don't see what one has to do with the other.

I stated that it was an individual choice. I also used "I" meaning my opinion. I wouldnt call Artist Pallette at SSR a "food court" either, Pop Century, now that's a food court!

Really, so claiming Roaring Forks is not necessarily a food court is telling the truth about SSR?

You quoted my entire post, so please don't take one sentence out of context.

I would do VWL especially if you do MK! If I am not mistaken VWL has the children's club? Dementia is kicking in and I can't remember the name:rolleyes: ? They also have a nice water play area for the kids...

Whispering Canyon, as you probably know is GREAT for kids and Roaring Forks has the BEST breakfast pizza for kids and mommies...

If your a SSR owner then definitely take advantage of a VWL stay because you never know if you might be able to do it next time!

Yes you did, granted it was in ONE sentence, but you did take a shot (IN ONE SENTENCE) at what is a very positive plus at VWL-it has a FOOD COURT and it is open late. There are "larger" food courts in the WORLD, but that doesn't mean this is not one, and many have NONE at all. Try getting some hot food fast for everyone when you get back to the other resorts (like OKW etc) after leaving the parks after a night show and you will conclude it has a FOOD COURT and it is a great addition to have at your Resort.

There is a kiddie pool at WL too. You can get life jackets for the lenght of stay for free. Will give you peace of mind around the pools.

I like SSR too but between the two with a little one I would pick WL
You could go over to Fort Wilderness they have pony rides and you can't beat the food or the price at Trails End Buffet. Don't miss the water parade at night! Our best memory is watching this on our first trip home.

Which ever your choice you will have a geat time!

Stay at VWL, it is much better for the access to the MK. You can stay at SSR anytime. If the pool is the hang-up, you should waitlist for BCV. SAB has the best toddler pool area.
