Hi-
I am a new DVC member and going to disney in March. I have a one bedroom booked using 108 points at SSR. A studio is only 52 points which I would prefer but all booked up. However, I can book a Studio at Coronado Springs for 72 points. Seems high compared to SSR but at lest I would save 36 points. We are mainly going to be park hopping. As I said, new member at SSR and never seen it but should I go to Coronado to save the points??? My wife and I are bringing my 2 and 6 year old so the extra space would be great, BUT I'm already trying hoard my points! Opinions please, any one stayed at Coronado? Thanks!

You will love the 1 bdrm units. I know you're not, but you can't compare the 1bdrm, or studio for that matter, at a DVC property to the rooms at CSR. We have stayed at both, hands down SSR is a much better choice for a relative small point difference.

Did you waitlist for the studio at SSR? SSR is opening units all the time, so it is possible that a studio will become available.

We have not stayed at CSR but we visit there each trip to dine at Pepper Market their food court normally after a day at Blizzard Beach because it is so close.

I would choose SSR over CSR without hesitation. CSR is a convention resort, and although very nice, I would spend the points and go with SSR.

CSR is pretty isolated. SSR is within walking distance to Downtown Disney. I prefer being near the action. :cool1:

We stayed at Coronado Springs once and don't ever plan to stay there again! Of all the Disney resorts, we liked Coronado Springs the least.

The only advantage to CSR is that it would have two real beds instead of a bed and a pull out. I would either try waitlisting for a studio at SSR or OKW. OKW would be less points, but would also have two beds and more room than CSR. The waitlist can work well.

We own at SSR and will be doing our first trip home in April...so other than the tour we haven't stayed at SSR. However, we just stayed at CSR in Jan and had a great stay. It's by far the best of the mods. If you go to the resort cat on Dis and search CSR, there is a great thread about it and BUZZ has great pics of it. If I were you, I would do as another poster recommended and waitlist for a studio at SSR. I am like you in regards to hoarding my pts and don't like the thought of spending that many pts for a one bedroom if I'm going to be in the parks most of the days...Good Luck!! :thumbsup2

I love, love, love CSR but I would never, ever use points to pay for it! I would stick with your 1 bedroom.

FWIW, you are within the 31 day mark and if you cancel your 1BR and book something else the extra points will go into the "holding account" and will be harder for you to use.

CSR seems very nice, but I'd keep the one-bedroom at SSR and get myself on the waitlist for the studio.

Oops - Never mind. I just saw the response before mine. If changing your reservation now would cause points to go into a holding account, I wouldn't change anything. Enjoy your one bedroom. I'm sure when it's over you'll be glad you kept that reservation.

Absolutely stay at SSR! A 1 BR is SOOO much nicer than a room at CSR...You have a kitchen, a huge bathroom with a whirlpool tub....hands down that is absolutely worth 36 points!

While I have never stayed at SSR, I have visited it a few times...

I stayed at CSR back in 1998 when it opened, and to be honest, I wasn't very impressed... Nothing in particular, but my wife and I actually found ourselves having more fun at the All Star's..

With the two kids, take the 1BR... Or at least a studio at SSR or OKW... With the studio, you will at least have a microwave, dorm fridge, and small sick for dishes.

Does CSR really have studio units or would the OP only be getting a regular room at CSR (for 72 points)?

IMO the extra space in the 1br when you have kids is well worth the extra points, but I would imagine that a waitlist would come through at SSR or OKW for a studio unit between now and when you get there. Sometimes the room will actually come through in those last 7 days before arrival (after the waitlist period expires) so long as you call a few times a day and check on availability.

Best of luck and have a great trip...no matter where you stay!

You will love SSR!
You may find, though, that once you've tried a 1-br you are totally unable to imagine squeeze your family into a studio again :crowded:

Points are higher at CSR because it is not a DVC location. Have you checked to see if a studio at OKW or even a one bedroom at OKW is available. Also as everyone suggested you can try the waitlist.

According to the DVC calculator the CSR choices are standard and water view. I would not want to spend that many points on a room with 2 double beds.

With kids your kids ages.... I would take the 1 bedroom at SSR in a heart beat. Imaigne this... kids fall asleep in one room, giving mom and day a whole other room to relax in.... oh yeah... now that's what I call a vacation!!!

Plus the in room laundry... even if staying for a couple of days is so worth it, as is the full kitchen. (great for reheating things, cereal for breakfast, snacks)

Really truly.... DVC puts the great in a great family vacation!!

We are staying at CSR again only because of my son's chess tournament. The minute it is over we are moving to a one bedroom at SSR. CSR is pretty at night but the rooms are small. Once you get used to putting your kids to bed in one room and hanging out with your spouse in another, you will never want to stay in a normal hotel room again.

I too would stick with a one bdrm. I own at SSR, have been there and love it. I have also been to CSR and that is a great resort too but I would definatly spend a few more points for the luxury of SSR.
