I'm in the process of buying 300 points. I was originally going to purchase all of them at SSR. Now I'm 2nd guessing myself and wondering if I should get 150 at SSR and the other 150 ADV. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I should do? Is it better to own 2 different places vs 1?
Putting aside the contract size question (it's possible to buy 300 points broken into smaller contracts at one time), there's another logistical question.
If you're a new member, then you can't buy AKV points for another month and the cost will be $104 per point. So the only way to get AKV points at any sort of incentive price is to buy some SSR and then buy AKV. Of course this only works if
DVC recognizes your membership and you do both purchases before Feb 28.
As for owning at two resorts, that question usually comes down to the onwer's preferences for home resort privileges. By splitting your contract amounts, you are limiting yourself at the 11 month window of ressies or getting into a situation of borrowing.
That said, 150 points at SSR will get you 5 days in a 1 bedroom or 4 days in a 2 bedroom in Spring and Summer, with some leftover. 150 points at AKV will get you 5 days in a 1 bedroom but only 3 days in a 2 bedroom in Spring/Summer (Savanna Views).
I use the strategy of getting enough points in my home resort for my needs (200 + 120 at SSR) and enough add on points at a second home resort to satisfy every other year or partial week stays.
AKV is probably one of those resorts that will be able to accommodate 7 mos ressies, like OKW and SSR. All you're gaining by owning there is 3 extra contract years and the rights to Club level bookings.
