How funny!! Yes, we were neighbors for sure! My apologies if you heard my kids (or us yelling at them!)

I was amazed at how quiet is was! One night I don't even remember hearing the PI fireworks, guess I was tired that night.

Just here to post an opposing view. We almost bought at SSR (had the contract in our stinky little hands, and decided not to return it). We ended up buying a resale at BWV (which we eventually sold to buy BCV). We had not toured a DVC resort, but we just had a "gut" feeling that SSR would not be for us. We toured SSR on our first visit home, and dh was SO glad that we did not buy there. While I am not a big "fan" of SSR....dh HATED it!! He stood by the door while we were at the GV (I was talking to my VERY sweet guide), and kept giving me "head nods", as if to say "Let's go". He wouldn't even talk to our guide. As we left, I berated him for not talking, and he said, "Well, Mom always taught me if you can't say anything nice...don't say anything at all." I said, "Well, I guess you didn't like it?" And he said, "We wil NEVER stay here...I'd cancel my trip first."

Now....admittedly, dh's reaction is extreme....but, he STILL swears that we will never stay there. I am NOT writing this to "bash" SSR, but rather just to make a point....you have been to DVC resorts, you know what you like. If you think you will like SSR, then by all means go for the incentive...it is great!!! But, if you don't think you will like it, or are pretty picky about where you stay....don't go for it.

Good luck in whatever you decide!!!

Well, at least my DH's reaction to somewhere (not SSR though) wasn't unique. I bet for every DVC resort, you could find someone who says "Absolutely not! I'd never stay there!" and someone else who says "Wow! I'd love to stay here every time!" It's a good thing so many people have such varied reactions to different resorts, but knowing that EVERY resort will get these extreme reactions from some people-stay there yourself and form your own opinion. What have you got to lose? After all, it's WDW!

Thanks for the info, everyone. The deal was too good to pass up so we went ahead and purchased 125 points at SSR. That's enough for now (yeah, right).

Thanks again for the great info!

Congratulations on your purchase and Welcome Home! I'm hoping in the next week or so to by an additional 120 points (to take advantage of the great 15% deal)! I'm sure you will have no regrets!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Congrats and Welcome home neighbor!

We've stayed twice at our home resort, once in a studio and once in a 1-br and have loved both... The studio was in the Springs, really close to the main pool and bus stop. The 1-br was in Congress Park, facing DTD; the walk to the main pool and spa was no trouble and we were so close to the bus stop! We really love SSR and just added 120 points on the offer (I got my papers yesterday!). The only other DVC resort we've stayed in is an OKW studio and it was nice, but I liked the SSR one better... go figure. We're also looking forward to our first stay at BWV next weekend.

We've been planning our vacation for next year and did not plan to stay at SSR... we want to try VB, VWL, BCV, OKW and BWV but, if I can't get rooms there, I have no problem staying at SSR. My DD8 absolutely loves the main pool.. it's her favorite (and we've stayed at many others, look at my sig).

I have no regrets.

Dear Beca,

Flame you? After asking you for the very info you so wonderfully posted? Goodness no - I'm really a nice guy, honest!

Seriously, I'm always interested in other people's opinions, both for and against; I've learned a lot from them over time. For example, the "hotel-type resort" vs. the "condo-type resort" is something that never really occurred to me (and where does the Polynesian fit in - interior corridors, but you have to walk a good ways [in the rain] to get to the GCH).

So thanks for taking the time to answer - consider yourself appreciated! :wave2:

Dr. T....gosh...I didn't mean that you would flame me! I know you are sincerely asking (and, that you're a really nice guy!! :love2:) I just thought all my dh's "reasons" might anger others....that's why I didn't post them initially...the caveats definitely weren't for you...I know you can "take it".

I bought sight unseen August of 2003. They had barely broken ground. I just knew it was Disney and I had faith. Besides I could change at 7 months. Well, I stayed there (and since all other on property DVC) and I love SSR the most. I am staying at SSR in April again! :cool1:

back when I joined - I think I had more faith DVC would be success than the people telling me about it....

it is Disney. they are not disappearing tomorrow. If you like luxury then SSR will do very nicely.

I stayed there in a studio. It was wonderful for DD. and I got one of the best views.

but it was too formal - kinda like they took the GF and moved it. I would feel horrible if I did anything to hurt this place. Like spilling grape juice or wine.

I like OKW better. you spill something you have no problem cleaning up - if you have a problem call housekeeping.

but that is personal taste.

We own at Vero Beach (never been there) and SSR (was there last Feb for 1st time). I like SSR for the Spa and the proximity to Downtown. If adding more points is your main focus, it really doesn't matter. I find depending on what the trip plans are, determines which DVC home we stay. We just went to the Wine Festival for the 3rd year in a row. We always try to stay at BCV or BWV. I still went to SSR for the spa treatment one day. My favorite DVC is Wilderness Lodge and we spent an afternoon there. That's the beauty of DVC, each one has something special all it's own.
Good Luck with your decision.

I was at WDW last week for Wine Festival and stayed at BCV. One of my DVC homes is SSR. We enjoyed our stay there last Feb. We had a studio that we shared with my brother-n-law. He slept on the sofa bed and was comfortable. I was surprised how quite the room was, considering we were in Congress Park directly across from Bongos.

Wait till you go back and see the new Irish Pub, "Ragland Road" that just opened in PI! It is huge and gorgeous and the food was delicious! I can see this is going to be a very "busy" place.

New to the DVC. Going with the family and friends to SSR for the first time. Four adults - Four teens. Would like to know how the two bedrooms are? Do you think we would have enough room?

We had six adults in SSR 2 bdrm just fine. The second sofa sleeper is a double so you might want to put two of the smaller teenagers on that one.

A couple of years ago we had eight at OKW which has quite a bit more room than SSR.

We have our first trip home to SSR planned. We are surprising our DD for her 6th birthday and it coincides with the Expedition Everest preview (end of January). Upon return, we will be glad to update everyone on our thoughts.

Beca,

Your husbands views seem to be exactly what I felt when I stayed there. We bought in before the resort was open so we did our presentation at BWV. Doctor T. said it best, it boils down to liking a certain type of resort and services bettter than another. SSR certainly isn't bad just not for me and I see not for your husband.

DAVE

We don't own at SSR; but have stated there twice and have stayed at all the DVC resorts many times including HH and Vero so I can compare it to all the others.

We love it. It will be our first choice when booking a DVC stay at Disney World.

In fact I can not think of a single thing we did not like, and I can think of many things at the other DVC properties I do not care for. This is not to say they are not all great places to stay, for they are.

It simply means SSR is the best fit for our vacation style. :)

Just Came back from our first stay at SSR since we added 50pts. I have to say while it is very nice, the transportation is brutal if you have a family . The stops are to spread out. We moved over to WLV and while that was alsome, I have to complain that transportation there is brutal too .Way too many stops since you share and it takes you forever to get to downtown disney , epcot or MGM..

I'm definetly looking forward to hearing about Expedition Everet. Unfortunately, I am scared to death of roller coasters, but still will enjoy by listening to others.

Beca: First of all, I've liked all your posts that I have read, I think you are very nice. I think you said you had like 540 BCV (or more pts) because you love the place so much. DW, son and myself used 427 pts to go on a Disney Cruise. Do you use your BCV points to do stuff like that, I'm just curious. OUCH!! One thing about owning at SSR, I know the priority advantage isn't there, but I think using points from there don't sting as much. What do you think? :goodvibes Matt
