Just got back from a 5 night stay in a dedicatd 2BR at SSR from 10/16 - 10/21. We were staying on developer points from our recent AKV add-on.
The weather was great all week, highs in the upper 70s/low 80s and lows in the mid-60s. The crowds were pretty steady but less so that when we went in June.
We arrived at SSR around 6:00pm on Thursday and walked right up to the check-in desk. We had requested something in Congress Park and they gave us unit 2475 (I believe thats the correct number).
When we arrived at the unit we noticed a mildew-like smell. I walked around trying to detemine the source and finally tracked it to the closet off the master bathroom. The carpet was completely wet, like somebody had just thrown a bucket of water on top of it. It had apparently been there a while because it already had a strong mildew smell. I first thought they might have had to steam clean the carpet there but it didn't smell pleasant like carpet shampoo. My guess is there might be a leak in the master shower stall since it and the closet share a common wall. We called the front desk and they said they would move us, but didn't have anything left in Congress Park. We said that was fine and they told us they would send Bell Services to move our things.
About 30 minutes later Bell Services was at the door and ready to move us to our new location at the Grandstand, unit 8435. We arrived to the "new" unit and everything checked out fine. We were pleased at the quick resolution to our problem and the location of the new unit. It turned out to be a blessing in disguise. It was the first stop for most of the park buses and a short walk, about 200 yards, to the main pool, Artist's Palette, etc. We had no other room issues and the rest of our stay went well. I do miss the LCD TVs from AKV but other than that we really enjoyed our first SSR stay. I was a little worried about what to expect given all the negative posts on these boards but I found a lot to like about the resort. I will definitely consider staying there again.
The bus service was pretty good, we never waited more than about 20 minutes for any bus, coming or going.
The park crowds weren't bad. The only 2 rides we ever saw long waits for were Soarin' at Epcot and Toy Story Mania at HS. We never got to any of the parks before noon and on the day we got to Epcot the Soarin' Fast Passes were already up to between 5:00-6:00pm. The day we got to HS the Toy Story Fast Passes were already given out for the day by 11:00am according to one of the cast members. We finally waited in line for Toy Story about an hour late in the day and were rewarded by getting right back on after our first ride before the park finally closed.
Overall it was a very nice trip and was the 3rd DVC resort we have stayed at so far.
Any questions from anyone?
