Just got back from a 5 night stay in a dedicatd 2BR at SSR from 10/16 - 10/21. We were staying on developer points from our recent AKV add-on.

The weather was great all week, highs in the upper 70s/low 80s and lows in the mid-60s. The crowds were pretty steady but less so that when we went in June.

We arrived at SSR around 6:00pm on Thursday and walked right up to the check-in desk. We had requested something in Congress Park and they gave us unit 2475 (I believe thats the correct number).

When we arrived at the unit we noticed a mildew-like smell. I walked around trying to detemine the source and finally tracked it to the closet off the master bathroom. The carpet was completely wet, like somebody had just thrown a bucket of water on top of it. It had apparently been there a while because it already had a strong mildew smell. I first thought they might have had to steam clean the carpet there but it didn't smell pleasant like carpet shampoo. My guess is there might be a leak in the master shower stall since it and the closet share a common wall. We called the front desk and they said they would move us, but didn't have anything left in Congress Park. We said that was fine and they told us they would send Bell Services to move our things.

About 30 minutes later Bell Services was at the door and ready to move us to our new location at the Grandstand, unit 8435. We arrived to the "new" unit and everything checked out fine. We were pleased at the quick resolution to our problem and the location of the new unit. It turned out to be a blessing in disguise. It was the first stop for most of the park buses and a short walk, about 200 yards, to the main pool, Artist's Palette, etc. We had no other room issues and the rest of our stay went well. I do miss the LCD TVs from AKV but other than that we really enjoyed our first SSR stay. I was a little worried about what to expect given all the negative posts on these boards but I found a lot to like about the resort. I will definitely consider staying there again.

The bus service was pretty good, we never waited more than about 20 minutes for any bus, coming or going.

The park crowds weren't bad. The only 2 rides we ever saw long waits for were Soarin' at Epcot and Toy Story Mania at HS. We never got to any of the parks before noon and on the day we got to Epcot the Soarin' Fast Passes were already up to between 5:00-6:00pm. The day we got to HS the Toy Story Fast Passes were already given out for the day by 11:00am according to one of the cast members. We finally waited in line for Toy Story about an hour late in the day and were rewarded by getting right back on after our first ride before the park finally closed.

Overall it was a very nice trip and was the 3rd DVC resort we have stayed at so far.

Any questions from anyone?

No questions, but thanks for posting! We're going to stay at SSR for the 1st time about 4 weeks from now. We can't wait! :cool1:

Thanks for the report...we will be there Nov. 6-10 first time at SSR for us. Our normal stay is at BCV. We have requested the Congress Park area ourselves...if not considering the mildrew problem with the room there., if you got to pick...would you still pick GrandStand over Congress Park?

How far is the walk back to main check in area from Congress Park, vs. what you did at GS?

:thumbsup2 Thanks for the report and It's nice to hear they took care of your issue so quickly.

What view did you have in Congress Park? Grandstand?

I think I would still pick Grandstand over Congress Park. We weren't really in the room at Congress Park long enough to get a good feel of the distance to everything but from the maps it looked about twice as far to the main pool, restaurants, etc as our unit at The Grandstand. The first stop for most buses coming from/going to the parks was The Grandstand bus stop which was about 200' from the main entrance to our building. During our stay we always got on before the other stops at SSR.

The view at Congress Park was on the water side across from Downtown Disney but most of our view was partially obstructed by a large tree. We could see Planet Hollywood from our unit. The Grandstand view was of the courtyard in the back of our units building.

The walk from our unit in the Grandstand to the main pool, restaurants, etc was only about 5 minutes, maybe 300 yards at most. We weren't at the Congress Park location long enough to do any exploring but from the maps it looked about 2-3 times farther from things.

We were at congress park room 1486

The walk from congress park (last building) to the main building was about 5-7 mins... we didn't mind at all.. We didn't walk to DTD, but it was the a hop, skip and jump on the bus.

Thanks for the report. Glad everything turned out well. Did you get any opportunity to catch any glimpses of treehouse construction/activity?

Thanks for the report. We are staying at our "home" SSR for the first time in 4 weeks. I am thinking about requesting congress park. Sounds like its a good location.

Thanks for the photos - we stayed in the Springs and loved it and took the boat to DTD. Even though I went right past Congress Park on the boat, those photos really drove home how close Congress Park is to DTD once I saw the view and the DTD dock and everything. We might have to try for a visit there sometime in the future.

Thanks for the report. Only another month and 6 days for us before we get to see the Florida Home again.

We stayed at SSR in May in the Congress Park section. We had a rental car and only took the bus on the day we went to MK so the bus stop was not an issue for us. We also only went to the main pool one day (our one non-park day) and so for a one day event trekking over there was no big deal. The small pool at Congress Park was great for quick dips to cool off during our afternoon nap breaks for the little ones or the evenings. We loved the fact that Congress Park was so close to DTD. The walk was so short that the kids (5 and 3) did it with no complaints. We would stay in Congress Park again.

I'm glad to finally hear of a happy and quick resolution to a housekeeping/engineering issue. You reported a problem and they responded quickly and with your best interest. It's a nice change form some of the situations other DVC'rs have encountered.

Sounds like you had a wonderful trip!
