Has anyone heard if SSR will include the treehouse villas in their inventory?
-Jennifer

The Treehouse Villas (and Fairway Villas) that were part of DI (and Disney Village before that) will not be part of SSR. The Fairway Villas are now occupied by College Program CM's and the Treehouses are vacant- but still standing.

The structures themselves are probably not suitable for a DVC resort even though they have been maintained.

Just curious why you think that. Do you think the treehouses aren't up to par?? Way back when I paid close to $400/night. It was a surprise for the DH, my neice and our friends. We Loved it. 3 bedroom, 2 bathrooms, kitchen, laundry room, living room, Large deck. Very private. Not elegant, but a treehouse, different. Plugged our golf carts into the house. They did seem to be in the middle of nowhere. We just got a kick out of driving our golfcarts to dinner, shopping, etc. The whole experience was fun and laid back.

We stayed in the treehouse villas as well, and loved it. The only thing we still laugh about it is the touch lamps by the bed. We were right across from a bus stop inside one of the bus circles, and everytime the busses went by late at night, the vibration turned the lights on. We called the front desk, they were aware of this problem, and told us to unscrew the light bulbs. Problem solved, partially. I have never had to bring hot pads to bed.

I'm sure they are very nice, but they are not themed, are not equipped/furnished like all other DVC resorts, are not accessible, etc. .For these reasons (and others) I don't think they can be registered and sold as DVC accommodations without extensive modification. I also understand that the area on which they sit has restrictions that would preclude the type of changes that would be needed to be included in the DVC program. JMO

I was just wondering. I have really fond memories.

I'd have to disagree with statement that they aren't themed ---> They are themed - round houses in trees. Tacky 80's furniture - Retro. 1 big Bath Tub. I'd bite. LOL I like trees. After all I live in a section of town called Greenwood!!!

And until you plug a golf cart into your round house - you haven't lived. The tree houses had enough outlets for 3 golf carts. Now that's heaven. Driving along the paths - with the moonlight lighting your way - the sprinklers coming on. That's living. Ahhhhh. To be young again - and on the Gold Key Plan!!!!!

I always thought the Treehouse Villas were a great place to vacation at WDW. While the rooms are a bit smaller than the DVC equivalent, the amenities and decor were about the same. The last time I was there was around 1998 and they had been remodeled and definitely had a rustic theme very simlar to a combination of HHI and WLV.

I recently returned from my first visit to HHI and I saw many similarities in the exterior theming and 'ambiance' between HHI and the treehouse villas area.

The Treehouses were definitely a unique place to stay, a unique value for small groups, and a great place to actually 'vacation' at WDW. I would agree that if you wanted quick access and easy transportation to the parks than another resort would probably be better, but the peace, serenity and surroundings could not be beat.

I only hope that they decide to keep the treehouses and do something good with them other than to let them collect dust!

My parents took me and a couple of friends to Disney in the late 70s and we stayed in a treehouse! It was great! I would love to stay there again with my hubby and kids! We just joined DVC and are among the group who would jump at the chance to be able to stay there with points!!

My only regret at buying into DVC is that my wife is hesitant to stay anywhere else. I would like the opportunity to stay in one of the Treehouse Villas and hope that they are made available again someday. It would be a shame for something so unique to be lost due to some misguided legislation.

Maybe they could have a Caddyshack themed resort.

Sorry, when buzz5985 mentioned driving along in your golf cart with the moon lighting your way and the sprinklers going on all I could think about was Caddyshack.

It's DH's favorite movie.

Okay, I'll shut up now.

floridafam,
That's so funny...my DH loves Caddyshack, too! I also loved the Treehouse Villas and have stayed there at least on two separate occasions. I've actually stayed at all the DI resorts except the bungalows. My favorite was the Treehouse. I always loved all the peacocks on the roofs, but they were so loud in the morning!

Luv2Dream,

I knew there was someone else out there who has a DH that loves Caddyshack. It just gets better every time we watch it.

Have fun on vacation next month. MA to Hollywood, FL. That's a heck of a drive!! Enjoy Hollywood. DH was born there and we went back a few years ago.

We stayed at the treehouses just a few weeks before they closed. We rented two golf carts and made a little movie called the great chase. We drove around all day and night just filming Golf cart chases.

That last time we stayed there the Treehouses had drums for tables and the beds headboards were like tree branches. We stayed at the treehouses when my oldest son was 2 and kept going back until they closed. He is now 22. I miss the treehouses, and golf carts.

I never got to stay at the treehouses but the first year or so after DVC opened (now called OKW) we shared a bus route with the Treehouses. It was fun to ride the bus past those unique buildings and it always intrigued me that there never seemed to be anyone at the pool there. Too many trees maybe? When we rented a canopy boat from Hank's we try to 'cruise' past the treehouses to PO. I hope that they find a way to reopen them to guests. It seems such a waste to let them just sit.

Does anyone know what they did with those 4 houses that were back in with the Fairway Villas?? I think they were called the Grand Vista Homes.

We were lucky enough to stay in one in 1991. We were supposed to stay in one of the FV but they were overbooked. When we got there we followed the CM in his van and nearly freaked when he pulled in.

The funny thing was when we were staying in one of them 2 of them had been reserved for 6 weeks by a Saudi prince and his family. Ouch. At the time they were renting for almost $1000 a night.

Would love to stay there again.
