SSR Transportation Issues

SSR is our home resort and we love it, but we've made the rounds of the other DVC resorts and this will be our first time staying at SSR since our first DVC trip. My only complaint about the resort was that the bus wait times were long and in some cases, by the time it got to our area of the resort (The Springs), they were full.

Has the bus situation improved?

We just spent five days at SSR and stayed in the Paddock area. Busses were great! We never waited over 10 minutes and usually waited less than 5. There was only one bus that was really crowded by the time we reached the Springs. It was the MK morning bus (8:50am). However, everyone was still able to cram on. I would think this could be a very different story during peak times like the holidays and summer, but we found SSR to be fantastic in all ways and highly recommend it to fellow DVC'ers.

I read that there isn't a bus from SSR to DS anymore.

Our experience with bus transportation at SSR has been mixed. Sometimes it's great and the waits are less than 10 minutes. Other times, the wait times are long and it's very frustrating. Our trips have all been within the last 2 years.

We stayed at SSR in October at Congress Park and the buses were great. Although the buses were pretty full in the morning by time they reached the Springs. However, it appeared that when that happened the driver said another bus was on the way and it was already at the Paddock or sometimes Congress Park. So it appears they had more buses on the schedule. The longest we waited for a bus was 9 minutes but most of the time it was less than 5 minutes.

My family of 5 will be staying at SSR for the first time in 3 weeks.Originally I planned to request the Grandstand to be the first bus stop, but I reconsidered thinking that if we go for breakfast in the main buildings, we may not walk back to the Grandstand to catch the bus, which would defeat the purpose. As I have a baby, standing on the bus is not an option. If we try to catch the bus at the Springs stop to make the parks at rope drop, how difficult will it be to get seats on the bus?

It could be hard at rope drop as the buses are always full of parents with strollers and little kds. I am a grey haired older woman that has knee problems and not great balance and I am often offered a seat. And I have seen many guests offer seats to parents with small kids that board when it is standing room only. The only problem would be if everyone else onboard is in your same situation. But I really think you will be okay.

Buses are the same as other resorts, at busy times they are full but normally ok.

We always walk over, kind of like taking a bus from boardwalk to Epcot.
Do they still have the redort shuttle?

The resort shuttle is only within SSR itself and goes to all of the bus stops including THV. There no longer is a bus to Disney Springs unless the boats are unable to operate due to lightning in the area. Then they activate a bus to Disney Springs. The bus stop at DS has moved and is now near Town Center, near the Orange garage. The old bus stop for DS near Marketplace is now a taxi stand.

The most efficient way to get from SSR to DTD is to take the internal bus to the Congress Park stop and then walk over. Since the opening of the new foot bridge about 2-3 years ago, the walk from CP bus stop to Disney Springs Marketplace is under 5 minutes. Very short.

Oh oh. No bus to DS. I remember the boat captain very rudly informin us that the BOAT WILL NOT leave before 10 am on our last trip. Buses don't go from resort to resort, so to get to breakfast at another resort requires some planning for sure. We used to catch resort buses at DS.

Take the internal bus to Congress Park and walk over to DS. With the second new bridge that starts near Rainforest Cafe, it crosses in front of the World of Disney, you will find it is a quick walk to the new bus stop at DS. Below is a map of DS, just click on it. It shows the two bridges and the new bus stop area.

We've been here for the last 8 days and have really had no issues. Staying at Congress Park

We stayed at SSR from 11/5/16 till 11/12/16 and took a bus to DS Friday evening 11/11/16. So unless this was just decided in the last couple of days not sure whats up. We stayed at the Grandstand so we could get first bus because of mom in an ECV. The longest wait we had for a bus was 20 minutes. But I will say that having to stop at the other stops in SSR (4) before heading to the parks can be a little annoying. So if you're in a hurry forget about it. Also the bus's for the week we were there were pretty crowded by the time we reached the last stop. Now coming back to the resort and being first stop was real nice.Other then that we liked the resort.

I've been at SSR since 11/12 and the transportation board at the Grandstand stop ("sandwich board" style, not sure about the digital board) still indicates buses going to Disney Springs. On several occasions I've even seen the bus for Disney Springs stop at the bus stop while I've been waiting for another bus. The driver I spoke with confirmed she was going to Disney Springs.

So I haven't seen any evidence of the Disney Springs bus being gone. And it hasn't rained all week, so weather is not the cause.

And just like kshark1958, I haven't had any issues with long waits for buses, my experience has been similar to theirs.
