Hello everyone,
My family is leaving in three weeks for a 12 day vacation at SSR. We will be staying in a studio room. While I haven't quite started packing yet, I am making my list of what I need to bring and items to purchase before we go. Having never stayed at a DVC resort/ studio room I really am not sure what is provided for me in the way of kitchen items. I know there is a fridge, microwave, toaster and coffee maker. But what about utensils, plates, bowls, cups, napkins, etc? Do I need to bring this stuff with me? We like to eat breakfast in our room and occassionally we will eat lunch in our room as well.

Also, what about the laundry facilities? Are these free? I am not a DVC member (yet), we rented points for this trip. So, I'm not sure if that qualifies me for the free laundry services.

One more thing.... can anyone tell me about the room itself? I have seen a few pictures of the bed, sofa and bathroom. But what about the kitchen space? Is there a closet in the room? How big is it? Is there a dresser for your clothes? Anyone have any pics?

This will be the longest vacation we have had at the World and I am so excited. I just want to make our room feel as much like home as I can.

Thanks in advance for your help!

We stayed in a studio at SSR in midAugust. The only plates, bowls, etc in the room are paper/cardboard and a couple of pre-packaged plastic utensils. This was the one thing I missed having in the room. Years ago we stayed in a studio at OKW and I thought I remembered having real glasses, plates and silverware.

There were several rolls of paper towels in the room as well as a sponge, dish liquid and dish towel.

There is a closet in the sink area of the bathroom for hanging clothing and a few shelves/drawers in the armoire that houses the television. There were 4 of us in the room and I felt there wasn't enough space for all of our clothes. I'm an 'unpacker' and don't like living out of suitcases while on vacation.

The one thing I learned on this trip was that moving forward we need at least a 1BR if not 2!

You will love SSR though, it is a beautiful resort! 12 days, I'm completely jealous! :)

Yes, the laundry is free. Machines are located near the pools. They also have laundry products for sale ($1 per box) if you don't bring your own with you.

there is no kitchen - just kitchennett - includes wet bar (big sink), coffee maker, toaster, microwave and under the counter refrigerator.

I like to bring some cheap plastic containers (Dollar Store) for microwaving and storing leftovers, lots ziplocks in many sizes, salt and pepper. We camp, and have some melamine type plates and bowls I would like for a 10 day stay.

We like the Bertolli frozen entrees, Birdseye Voila frozen entrees as they microwave well. Prepared chicken from Publix with salad mix makes a nice change from park meals.

We now have an Owner's Locker and have packed a George Foreman grill for our studio stays to supplement what we can microwave and toast.

12 days in a studio will be tough if you don't plan to eat out a lot. There are NO microwave bowls, etc and as noted, only paper towels and plastic utensils/bowls. They do have glasses and ceramic cups, toaster, coffee maker. Housekeeping may be willing to bring replacements for he disposable items and they MAY be willing to bring you a couple of pyrex dishes that will fit in the microwave. When we first joined, we concentrated on studios and had a storage box with a few cheap microwave bowls, utensils, etc but we were where we could drive. It'd be tougher for those flying. Still, take a couple of cheap bowls, spatula, large spoon and items like cereal, oatmeal, etc might be helpful.

good info...I am staying in a Studio next week and was wondering the same thing...heading to the dollar store now...

There is very little horizontal storage space in a studio. So I suggest you get one of these mesh shoe hangers, and hang it either on the adjoining room connector door or the bathroom door and fill with all the stuff you would normally be laying on the limited counter space.

When staying in a stuido, we bring plates that can be microwaved, a good cutting knife and cutting board, real flatware (which can also be requested from housekeeping), cheap storage containers for leftovers, ziplocs, Palmolive dish clothes (presoaked in detergent to make it easier to clean dishes in the single bowl sink) and a compact dish strainer (used for RVs or boats) to allow dishes to dry. Not for the kitchenette, but we also bring a fitted Q size sheet, a fabric mesh shower caddy that hooks over shower rod inside the shower to hold shampoo, etc., and for our stay at BWV this year, a folding table to use as a coffee table (which is not needed for other resorts). Enjoy your stay -- Suzanne

I was trying to think of something clever to say about the one piece bathing suit on the door handle, but nothings coming to mind. I'm very disappointed in myself.

Thank you so much for all the responses! I have learned so much from the disboards. Here's a few more questions..... Will the refridgerator hold a gallon of milk? How much freezer space is there? Is there a store at SSR that sells food products such as milk, OJ, eggs and bread?

Thanks again for your help.:flower3:

The freezer is very small, about good for one or two ice cube trays. A gallon of milk will fit fine.
