SSR stairways

Hello all! I read somewhere that the stairways for SSR are outside. Is this really true? Are the hallways outside too? What about the elevators? If this is true then we may need to rethink buying into DVC at this time. Outside hallways and stairs are just icky (not to mention wet).

I hope one of you can ease my mind.

We listened to how horrible the hallways were at SSR and whne we got there we couldn't figure out what everyone was talking about. It's just a matter of taste...And we LOVED the "Welcome Home" door mats!! Everything, halls, stairs and elevators, are under cover. You won't get wet!

Yes, they're outside, but everything is covered. I don't think you've got the right picture in your mind what they're like.

We've stayed at many other timeshares: Hilton, Marriott, Hyatt, that also have outside hallways and stairs. It's not being outside that matters, but how the entire decor is designed, and how protected everything is from the weather.

Are you thinking it's the typical Motel type of outside hallways and stairs? Not so.

BTW, the hallways and stairs at OKW are 'outside' also.

I know exactly what you are thinking. I always reserve hotels with interior corridors. Even budget places, I will only stay in a place with interior corridors.

First of all in Florida it's different, there are many nicer places that do not have interior corridors. More importantly howver is that SSR is nothing like what you are thinking. It feels like a Disney Resort in every way. The doors opening to the outside is not in your typical hotel / motel fashion. I would say more like a Resort in a tropical climate. No feelings of insecurity or "ickyness" or lack of style or even luxury.

I'm not even quite 100% sure how they pull it off, but trust me, what you are thinking, and the actual resort are like night and day. Anyone would not only be comfortable staying there, but rather beyond comfortable, more like "AT HOME!"

Doesn't feel like you're outside the way it is designed. We were watching the rain from the exterior hallways in June and stayed completely dry.

The elevators seemed quite "classy" at SSR when we were there -- it was weird entering them from the outside, and getting off of them to face the outside world, because they were decorated like, well, a hotel elevator! The halls were not a big deterrent or downside to us. We had just come from BCV and BWV stays, with their interior corridors. Frankly extenal noise is JUST as great in an internal corridor as external -- and we had no real problems at ANY of the WDW resorts. I think it's because they are just that well built, with quality doors to filter out sound, etc. We like the proximity in SSr and OKW of getting to our car when we want to, so the lack of an internal corridor is not bothersome or detracting to us (plus, it's so nicely themed and landscaped, it all just "goes" together!)

Now one downside to this, I must confess... at night, when we would amble the external corridors to get to the pool.... I was often met by some "friends" of the Kermitous variety. Frankly, I didn't recall seeing a single frog in the BWV hallways, nor did I feel deprived for it! I could surely live without the frogs. On the other hand -- my kids thought they were SWELL.

But hey, BCV had loads of little lizards just waiting to hop in my patio door and cuddle up with me (and I ain't talkin' the Geico dude, either.) So I'd say frogs and lizards and such are probably just a Floridian issue to be dealt with, interior hallways or not.

Although I really loved the rooms and the view at SSR, I do have to agree that I was not thrilled with the outside hallways. We stayed there this past Oct. and when it rained we actually had a puddle of water right outside our door. Another thing that I noticed (I wish I hadn't) was a GIANT dead flying insect of some sort on the ground in one of the hallways. For those reasons I don't really like the outdoor hallways.

Eeww--frogs? Oh boy, I just don't do frogs! We own SSR and visited there over President's Week and thought it was absoutley beautiful. We haven't stayed yet though, and right this minute I'm kind of looking like this cuz' I just don't do frogs! Not really a fan of those lizards either! I'm thinkin' I'm just not the reptile or amphibian type!

Not to worry - those were audio-animatronic frogs. We SSR owners pay a good portion of our MF to keep those lil fellers looking life-like. Same with the bugs....

Oh, you're right! It was those little fellas who sit around the quiet pool by day!
