Hi all,
I know you can deactivate the motion sensor on the thermostat, but that's not the problem we are having. Our thermostat is set to 65, but the coolest we can get the room is 73/74. Yes, this is a first-world problem, but we'd prefer it a little cooler. Anybody else ever have this "problem," and if so, how did you get it fixed. I figure we could call for maintenance, but honestly I feel kind of stupid!

Thanks!

73 degrees is a pretty reasonable temperature, not sure how cold an air conditioner can actually make a room. Can't hurt to see what maintenance has to say though.

Don't feel stupid. Just call maintenance. Also, make sure you set the fan to always on, that can help keep air moving and cooling off places further from the AC unit.

Keep the sliding glass door closed, the HVAC won't turn on with it open.

I have two directions:

Press the power button and the down arrow button simultaneously. The letters "bp" should appear in the display indicating you are in "bypass" mode. Then you can use the up/down buttons to set the temperature. You may have to do this every 24 hours or every few days.

The thermostat has 2 buttons on the left (ON/OFF and AUTO/FAN) and 2 buttons on the right (UP and DOWN)

1) Press the ON/OFF and AUTO/FAN buttons together. The digital display will change to 'CA'.

2) Press the ON/OFF and DOWN button together. The digital display will change to 'OR" (or something similar).

You have just deactivated the motion sensor. This will last for three days at which point you will have to repeat the process.

We have the same problem when we stay in the Saratoga rooms. I read somewhere that you can "fake out" the system by putting mylar balloons in the room/bathroom, they will move around and the AC will keep working. Not sure, as I have not tried this myself. May be worth a try,

Uh, not for me it isn't reasonable. My home AC goes down to 68 at night. Any warmer than that, I can't sleep. I routinely set my hotel room A/C down as low as it can go, which is usually either 60 or 65 degrees. I have usually had luck getting the rooms that cold. Often, it gets TOO cold and I have to turn it up.

If the room isn't getting cooler than 73 when it is set at 65, there is something wrong with the unit. Call maintenance.

I am definitely with the OP and DLgal on nighttime temps. It is a scientific fact that we get to sleep easier when our bodies are cooler. It makes me crazy when someone ELSE decides what temperature they think my room should be. If I'm paying, I want to choose, within reason. Icicles notwithstanding…. :p

The first thing I do when I check in a room that I can't get the a/c temp to go down is to call maintenance immediately. We also own a TS on Maui, and I call them to override the thermostats there as well, though I have to say that Marriott isn't as chintzy with the cool down capability. When we stayed at Poly Villas in early May, the maintenance guy said even he couldn't get the thermostat to go lower than 72 I believe it was. Unacceptable. Lots of folks have insomnia or breathing issues where they need a room to be cool at night.

Thanks! Going to Poly in July and this will definitely be handy!

This is the only "problem" we ever have when staying at SSR. DH is constantly fiddling with the thermostat because it's either too hot and stuffy or too cold, there doesn't seem to be any happy medium. My daughter stayed there a couple of years ago and she had the same issues but it was always too hot. Funny thing about her is she LIKES it warmer than most but it was so warm they couldn't sleep. She got to be on a first name basis with the maintenance guy.

You are NOT unreasonable. We keep our home A/C on 68 at night and 72 during the day. I hate it when Disney decides what temperature I should be comfortable at. We have the same problem with the A/C at DVC property. First thing I do upon entering the room is override the thermostat.

We have had this problem at many Disney resorts. Not all of the thermostats have the buttons needed to follow the override instructions. Once we had the maintenance guy rewire the AC unit at AKL to get it colder. Then it was freezing all of the time because we lost all use of the thermostat. DH was sick that trip and he needed it cold to sleep. The management at AKL was awful about the whole thing and we ended up getting 2 nights refunded to us when I wrote a letter reporting what happened.

This is one of things that prevents me from buying more DVC points. I know it seems silly but we need it cold to sleep. Every resort rehab usually results in thermostats you can't override.

I'm a cold-blooded Canadian, so count me in as someone who would be tossing and turning (and swearing) and taking a cold shower at 2 in the morning, if I couldn't get my room cooler than 73 at night.

In winter, our furnace keeps our house at 73 (22c) during the day and at 68 (20c) at night. In the summer, we keep the a/c set to 68 (20c) in the day and 64/65 (18c) at night. Of course for us, the hottest of summer days are about 90, and a really, really nice summer's day is about 77.

Of course, we're also the people you see enjoying the pool at DL or WDW as long as it's 60 degrees out.

THANK YOU!!!

Just back from Saratoga Springs and your codes worked great!!!!

I wish I could say the same thing about our Not SO - Magic Bands

I know they call them Home Away from Home but seriously I think there has to be some compromise. We find the room to be very cool if we turn the unit down. I would be embarrassed to ask them to rewire it to make it colder and then complain when it was too cold.

I hope everyone does realize that going in and out to your balcony does affect the AC and if you leave your door open even a little will shut it off. So keep the balcony door closed at all times.

Not reasonable to me. I would be miserable and pretty tickled off--on a luxury vacation you should be able to cool your room.

I've read the shut off when balcony is open many times but have not found it to be true. BLT, BWV, AKV - Jambo - nope. Keeps running. Those are the resorts I've made note of it.

It keeps running but does not cool. I did not mean the unit shuts off completely. We were told by maintenance that with the door open the unit does not cool to prevent condensation build up.

True, the open door shuts down the compressor in the outside AC unit, the inside fan keeps running.
