SSR Room Size

I saw the below post on a Yahoo news group. Does SSR have much smaller rooms than OKW? Thanks

We recently split a week at OKW and SS and stayed in 2BD unit in
both. No comparison for space. OKW was by far larger and more
conveniently layed out. SS gets point for being brand new, but that
is about it. I can't say enough nice things about OKW 2 BD. We have
4 children and they had the 2 queen bedroom and bath, own tv and
closet. The master bedroom is down the hall past the laundry and
kitchen/living area and feels very large and spacious. SS is smaller
and cramped as far as the living room and kitchen goes (kitchen also
has no cabinet room) and the small nook table was hard to manuever
around. Also SS has that "confusing maze" of bathroom doors - hard
time finding the toilet room, esp in middle of night. Would love to
stay at OKW - we were in building 53, which is far down into the
complex, but within walking distance to playground and quiet pool.
Reading all the reviews of WL I would maybe like to stay there next.
Also, we visited a friend at BCV while we were down there and they
are exactly like SS, but even smaller!

OKW has the largest 1 BR, 2 BR, and GV units, by far. Every other DVC resort on property is a lot smaller --- they're all similar, although there is a little variation. This is one of the many reasons that some people love OKW so much (plus, less points are needed!). Each property has it's own special attraction, however, and they're all wonderful........ in our opinion.

I don't think BCV is "even smaller" than SSR....I think they are the same.

But yes...OKW is much bigger.

Just wondering, do most owners feel the larger rooms/layout of the rooms offset the fact that the resort is older?

I really think it's a matter of personal taste. Many, many people love OKW because it's quiet, laid back, very roomy, and less points (we do). Others think it has no particular 'Disney theme' and is too far from the parks. Many like to be at BCV or BWV because it's closer to "the action" and has lots of dining options. VWL is close to MK, but very quiet and relaxing -- some think it's too dark. SSR is brand new, but has construction areas, which bother some people. It's less than 10 minutes to walk to DTD, but doesn't have a sit-down restaurant. Location matters more than space to a lot of people. If you have 6-8 people in a 2 BR, there's much more room to spread out at OKW, but some people don't care about that.

Get the picture? There's pros and cons to each resort and each has very passionate, loyal followers. OKW has been recently renovated.

Being an older resort has nothing on the quality or appearance of Old Key West. It looks great, provides me with an outstanding vacation environment and I feel at home there.

I am surprised that anyone could call the 2 br acommodations at SSR cramped! We found them lovely and spacious; we couldn't quite believe how big they were!

Sounds like a troll to me. While it is true that SSR is not as large as OKW, the SSR-2BR with 1075 sq. ft. of living space is hardly cramped and small.

What exactly were they trying to maneuver past the breakfast nook table. There was a good 3.5 feet of space between the counter and the table -- plus the table is not fixed in place and could be push closer to the bench if desired.

The "confusing maze of bathroom doors" to use the master bath toilet may seem like an inconvenience -- but it is a brilliant idea that actually makes SSR more flexible than OKW. If you put someone on the sofa bed in OKW, they cannot access a toilet in the unit without enterring either the studio or the master bedroom. This might not seem like a problem for a family -- but could be a problem with a mixed group that desires more privacy. The Master bathroom toilet in a SSR unit is available to anyone in the unit without encroaching upon the privacy of the master bedroom. A nice touch -- and not all that confusing to open one door and then to open the second.

I can't speak to the rooms at SSR, since I haven't stayed there. But, by the photos I see they have a darker, more elegant look. Personally I like the pastel, airy feel of OKW, but that's probably because I have kids running around.

In terms of aging, OKW looks fabulous! We just stayed in a Grand Villa last month & were commenting how we can't complain that our monthly fees aren't put back into the buildings. Everything was in great repair, no sign of wear. In fact, while there a maintenance person stopped by to replace the knob on top of our bannister! lol

I remember when BWV opened & out of curiosity I went on the tour. One of the salepeople commented that OKW was a "mistake". He said after Disney built them, they realized people would pay the same amount for much less space & that the subsequent resorts were cut back about 40% in floor plan.

But, having stayed at the BWV once, I can't argue on the great location!

You cut me off. I also said "it comes down to personal taste". Some DVCers enjoy a "too small pool" a "counter service restaurant" and "construction noise". I'm not one of them, I enjoy long hallways myself.

Stayed at SSR in January and was pleasantly surprised with the room size. In my opinion the rooms are more spacious than many of the pictures look.
