We were booked to stay at AKL for the first part of out Jan trip but managed to rent a few points from a DVC owner for SSR. We have never stayed here before and really looking forward to it:) We have requested Congress so hope this is a good location.

We did consider buying a house in Orlando but may buy DVC so I hope this trip will convince DH we need to buy DVC. Please share your experiences of SSR

We have also rented points for our May trip at AKV :) and looking forward to this too :)

Since becoming DVC members we have stayed at the GF which we would not have done till our 25th Wedding Ann. DH always said no matter what we would stay there for it,but with DVC we stayed there 2 yrs ago, stayed at BC last yr loved it,then stayed at our home resort SSR it is in my opinion fab loved the location we had no problems with buses as some people seem to have had stayed in congress park with view of DTD 1 bed apartment & we are going home again in 8 days time, but then again put me any where in WDW & i am a happy girl.
Also gave parents-in-law 2 nights in the BW & 2 nights in SSR last easter so they could ascape on there own for a couple of nights each week, away from the grand children:laughing:  So for us DVC is great.

My DW and I considered buying a condo in Orlando as well. We ended up purchasing another timeshare outside of Disney. Big mistake. Four years later we purchased at DVC. What a difference. I realize that you purchase at DVC to come to Disney. However, you cannot always make it. Unless you live within driving distance. If you can not make it, then you would want to rent it. Our other timeshare has not rented well at all. Nor have we been able to sell it. DVC on the other hand rents easily on this board. We do not do that to make money. Just to cover the maintenance fees. That was the selling point for us.

If you are going to buy, check out The Timeshare Store. They are one of the sponors of the disboards. We purchased our points from them at a lower rate than what DVC was selling at the time. You just have to keep in mind that when purchasing through a reseller like The Timeshare Store, DVC had ROFR. They usually only do this when the price point is extremely low, and you do not lose your money if they do this. The one negative of going with a reseller is that you will miss out on bonus developer points. These are a one time use set of points. You will want to take the tour and talk to the DVC agent, but look at The Timeshare Store before you go so you know the price comparision.

SSR is a lovely relaxing resort but still close to all the action. We bought at AKV but would happily stay at SSR again in the future. DVC is so flexible which is partly why we bought in as you don't have to go every year and can choose the dates, villa size and location to suit your needs for each visit.

Claire ;)

Thanks guys, we are really seriously considering DVC, it's much less hassle than buying a villa etc. I will take the tour when there.

boettj, thanks for the info on the timeshare store, have had a look and it;s very reasonable :thumbsup2
