Just returned from a recon mission/morning walk from OKW to DD. We decided to cross the golf cart bridge at DI and walk around the old DI grounds.

I did get some up-close-and-personal pictures of the construction at SSR, but will have to wait another 9 days to post them here, since the fool who was supposed to pack the upload cable for my digital camera neglected to do so.

Construction is really progressing at SSR. It appears that the lakeside site that used to be home to the townhouse villas will hold 4 buildings. Foundation work for these structures appears to be complete and one building has the steel superstructure framing pretty well complete. You can identify where 1BR and studio villas will be located and which are dedicated 2BR villas.

Continuing to walk towards what was the theater and amphitheater at DI demonstrates that the area is now clothed in green barricade material. A peek behind the barricade reveals that the bungalow villas are now gone. There is one that remains (closest to the bridge), but all others are leveled and the ground is being prepared for whatever will follow. All of the DI classroom buildings are intact, along with the spa, former check-in area, theater, auditorium, restaurant, and TV studio- but the residential area is now bare ground and is scattered with earth moving equipment.

The Fairway Villas (now occupied by College Program CM's) and Treehouse Villas (now unoccupied) all still remain.

Some work is also being done on the marina area in front of the LBV Golf Course Club House.

We had a great day yesterday. For those old enough to remember the Turtles, they are performing at the American Pavillion Theater at Epcot as part of the Flower Power concert series for the Flower/Garden show. They put on a great show for old guys! (The Turtles and I and David Letterman are all the same age.) We took in 2 shows last night and will probably catch another today. Flo and Eddie (The Turtles) are here for 3 more days, then we'll catch The Grass Roots (3 days) and Herman's Hermits for 4 days.

OKW was at 90+% occupancy Thurs night when we arrived, but has dropped to 65% for the weekend- with a return to 90+% for the upcoming week. Still no notice of a Towel Train- apparently the recent reports/comments were successful to curtail that early morning itinerary.

I apologize about the delay in posting the SSR photos (and have some of the Turtles too!), but willl get them up as soon as I get home. I gotta have a word with the guy who packs my stuff for these trips! :smooth:

92 degrees today. Parks are busy and all (except AK) have late hours all week.

As yesterday, we had a great walk this morning. Left the room a little before 7:00am and walked about 6 miles, stopping at So. Point for a swim on the way back to our room.

More when I find the time! :)

Thanks Doc. We can not wait to see first hand what Disney's version of Saratoga Springs will be like when they are finished.

Thanks, Doc!

We're not coming over 'til Friday... If I didn't have a full day planned today - I'd run a cable over to you!!

As far as the packing?... Well... you know what they say... "If you want something done right... do it yourself..." or, something like that... :)

Have a great stay! It's nasty hot out - keep cool!!

Hi Doc,
We'll be coming down tomorrow,BWV. What type of camera do you have? I have several cables, also my laptop has compact flash and smartmedia ports that can down load. Let me know if I can help. Rich

PS Leaving at 4:30 am from my house. So this evening is when you would have to let me know.

Poorman,
I didn't realize you had a trip coming up...have a great time! Also, check your PMs now please.

Thanks for the reminder-DH and DS will be playing golf at LBV on 5/30-I'll have to have them take a peak around at what's new at SSR.
Hope you're going to be there until the 25th, Doc. That's when we arrive at OKW.

Doc, thanks for checking out SSR and reporting back. Can't wait to see the finished product.

Thanks for the update Doc. Wish DVC would do regular picture posts during construction. I'll keep an eye out for your pictures. Yes, I am old enough to remember the turtles. :p

Thanks for the report Doc....can't wait until Dec to see how far they've gotten when I get down there...

Thanks Doc - sounds like alot of work being done! We will be there on Thursday and will also check it out. By the way when we were there at Easter we caught Davey Jones from the Monkees at the American Theater. My kids sat there and seemed to enjoy the music, one seemed embarressed when we all sang along but my youngest just sat there at the end and looked at me and said - But Mom - when do the monkey's come out?????? Only from a seven year old when the 47 year olds were doing the Monkey!

Doc, thanks for the updated. I wasn't expecting them to level the Bungalows so soon.. Very intersting. Did you see if the Grand Vista Suites were still there? Those are the 4 single family homes that were on a cul-de-sac by the Fairway Villas. I have wondered what they had planned to do with those..

Enjoy your time at WDW and OKW,looking forward to pictures. Thanks for posting.

Thanks for the update Doc and I look forward to seeing the pictures sometime soon.

Thanks for the update Doc. Your reports are always very informative.

Presume you'll try WWTBAM so good luck there.

Have a great trip.

Ty for this wonderfully detailed report Doc!! It is always so exciting to see the birth of a new DVC Resort. Enjoy the rest of your trip!! :)

Doc...as always, thanks for taking time from your vacation to share news with us here on the DIS boards! :)

Can you tell what the pool looks like it will be? Just wondering since the renderings seem to be a little hard to see how the pool will set up.

Looking forward to scouting it out myself next month.

Thanks again! :)

Looking forward to seeing the pictures. Thanks for the info.:D
