SSR refillable mugs - silly comment

Well, at the risk of stepping out into a peril-fraught mug debate....

I was kind of assuming that they would have SSR mugs when the resort was finished being built, if not before. I hope that is the case, because I love using the resort mugs at home too.

However, much as I love using the mugs at home, I don't anticipate wanting to fill up our cabinets with buying a mug or two each trip. It seems to me that it is kind of a waste to have a perfectly good mug for the resort I'm staying at and have to buy a new one every trip, and I would think that the "Enviromentality" department at Disney would agree with that.

I wonder sometimes why they don't use a system like they have at Typhoon Lagoon where the mug has a bar code that works for one day (one trip, whatever) and as far as I know, I could bring last year's mug from Typhoon Lagoon, pay them another $5 or something and get a new bar code and drinks this year too. The bar code turns on the soda machines around the park so you can get a refill. Maybe it's a problem because they are in the food courts or something, I don't know. Heck, if they could have a month/year sticker to sell, and that would work for me. Seems to me that it would split the difference between people buying a new mug each trip and people getting away with using old mugs, but Disney probably has their reasons.

If I ever did reuse an old mug (not that I would, nor ever have) it would be more out of a wish not to acquire more mugs than I need than a desire get something for nothing. I clearly have no problem giving Disney money. :lmao: My MOTHER, on the other hand, seems to live to get something for nothing and thinks the rules do not apply to her. :scared:

I'm with you on this one. I drink enough sodas that it always makes it worthwhile to buy the mug, but I had to start throwing them away when my cabinet became 50% Disney mugs. Especially the newer ones (5+ yrs) they are just so bulky compared to the earlier version. I really liked the old thinner mugs better... they insulated better too.

I have to agree with the OP. Although we have yet to stay at SSR (probably this Sept), it would frustrate me that my home resort did not have a "mug of it's own".

We own at VWL and our mug has remained the same since our first stay at WL back in '98 or so. I love those mugs with the bears on them! SSR needs a special mug!

I'm laughing so hard. Is this a New Year's resolution or an absolute promise? Please say it isn't so....

Either way it made my day. All the best dumbo...

:lmao:

Well I might have some flames left, never say never. Don't worry I'll still be stirring the pot when necessary.

Call it a kinder gentler Dumbo71 this year. Maybe not renting anymore is good for the soul.

Edit: Apologizing isn't so bad, even to me. I've had to apolgize many times after removing the foot from my mouth.

I'd also like to see SSR mugs. It is my "home" after all.

Thanks for apologizing and welcome to the Dis.

The reason you weren't asked anything at SSR is because you were using the same mug.

What you did that was wrong is that you used the free mug obtained elsewhere to get free beverages at SSR during your stay.

Promise to not bring it back with you on the next visit and we'll call it even.

Although I feel it is ethically wrong, and I don't support the practice of this type of use of mugs, I really don't agree that it is such a big deal. I mean that economically, as a DVC owner, the cost of the syrup and carbonated water combined to fill a mug must be less than 10 cents in total. Since most people would probably not indulge in this activity, why does everyone get so inflamed by this issue?

I quite agree, hence my original post :) .

Didn't mean to stir up a "mug ethics" issue.:sad1:

For the record this issue doesn't inflame me.

You know what, soda is cheap, but that is not the point. We can't just pick and choose the rules we would like to follow. It is like the person who thinks "What is one extra swimmer at WL pool?" It DOES make a difference and somebody is paying for it somewhere. How about smoking? Maybe somebody feels like "Does it really matter if I smoke in this non smoking room or I'm entiled because I'm paying for the room or I'm an owner, whatever?" Yes it does.

Rules are there for a reason. Those choosing which rules to follow are simply wrong. Illegal mug refilling is stealing. I'd like to see someone prosecuted for it and then have it publicized. Maybe people would think twice.

Mug abuse isn't my pet peeve by a long shot but choosing to not follow the rules and then passing that abuse to your kids IS wrong. I hope parents can set a good example for their kids by following ALL of the rules, not just some that meet their needs.

Hi, My sister and I were at Epcot this past November and we both
received the Epcot mugs for free at the big gingerbread house in the
American Pavilion. Both were filled with free hot chocolate. Since we
were staying at SSR, we were able to use the same mugs at Artists Palate
.

Yes, most resorts do have their own designs. I don't know why SSR
has Epcot on their mugs.

How so? did you buy the:lmao: m?
just kidding!! this is a crazy topic here-and BTW-i was just there a week ago and they still had the Fall 2006 mugs so I never bought one. I was really dissapointed too-i always buy the mugs as a souveiner.

I just had a thought.....SSR finally designs a mug that is a good representation of that resort,
and somewhere on the mug is the name: Hanname. :cloud9:

Have to agree with Dumbo, it truly is not about soda, the cost of soda, or whether this a major crime, which of course it is not. It is about rules and respecting them. I think most DVC members belong to the rule following group and therefore they probably have very little abuse of the mugs at their resorts.

To the FloridaDVCGirl, you made an innocent mistake and now that you know the official policy, you can abide by it or if you chose not to, I would recommend keeping that info to yourself. ;)

Am I missing something here? What 'mug crime' did the OP commit?
I thought it was another person on this thread that commited it?:confused3

You right, that is what I get for posting while taking cough medications, I will correct my post. Thanks :thumbsup2

We stayed at OKW the week after Thanksgiving of 2006, and they had the Epcot mugs as well.

We asked why no OKW mug, and they said they had been out for a while.

I'm with you. I wanted one with the OKW picture on it.:sad2:

First (Busy putting DVC Migs at Saratoga Springs Hat on) as the official Mug Police Disboard Captain (self-appointed, no badge yet), I forgive and pardon all on this thread, prior to this post who have come clean about their mug abuses. Please ignore that little green amphibian, he is of no consequence!

Second (Switching into DVC/DVD Promotions cap), until such time as SSR releases it's own official mug, and as long as any resort is out of their official mugs during your visit. I grant largesse to all to completely ignore mug rules, posted implied or otherwise. If you have any problems, please refer the Disney CM, VP or security personel to my email:

Very true! It wasn't me!

Thanks for defending me.....:)

Cause it's wrong as you said yourself in your post. And many act like it's not. I think it's that simple.

Our first mugs were VWL mugs and we loved them (rest in peace). Does VWL still have the old style mugs with the thinner walls? I'd make a trip just to get a couple of THOSE mugs.
