I was at WDW last October and stayed at one of the All Star Resorts. Our mugs had a length of stay "chip" in them so that they were only good while we were there.... We are headed back to WDW and staying at SSR this time and I don't want more mugs, but I understand the need to pay for the mug again.

Has Disney done anything new with this concept? Are the length of stay chips still in the mugs? Is there a way to bring my old mugs and pay something to make them length of stay again? We go to WDW a LOT and I hate throwing away good mugs, but sheesh we have a lot. I don't want to cheat the system, I just don't want 6 mugs per trip LOL

Does that make sense??:confused3

That was a test at ASSp. The test is over. The RFID mugs are gone. Nothing has been done with it since.

No you can't officially bring back your old mugs.

I know what you mean. We are having a yard sale Saturday and there are many WDW mugs in the pile to sell.

We use our mugs at home all the time. you can use a straw with them so they are great for the kids. They are good "car" mugs too.

I am embarrassed to admit I figured out the straw through the drinking hole only last week. I have spilled so many cold drinks on myself...Coffee, I am much more careful to sip! I don't know if I have the heart to recycle my WDW mugs :( All the other reusable ones-- Six Flags, etc. are long gone.

I use ours for my hot tea everyday and for car cups. I packed up our duplicates for our children when they move out....LOL, we all needed mugs when we got out on our own, right LOL.

. . . I understand the need to pay for the mug again . . .

1) Yep.
2) However mugs prior to 2003 are FOREVER mugs.
3) They can be used
. . . ANY RESORT
. . . ANY TIME
. . . NO TIME OR VISIT LIMIT

Unless you were joking, that is wrong information. We bought mugs in 1997 at the Polynesian that had big signs posted overhead that they were only good for the length of the trip at the resort we bought them. I think they just started posting the information on the mug around 2003.

So not all mugs prior to 2003 were forever mugs.

We have a set from the contemporary. Was so much trouble to use them, "no these are lifetime. They have contemporary written on them but there is no mention of time of stay." Having to deal with nosy soda police guests just made it easier to buy the mugs again each stay. Bought them Dec of 97.
