SSR quirks

Just back from our first trip as DVC owners to SSR and BCV.

Noticed a couple of odd things in our stay at SSR (2BR #2810). First, the fridge opened the wrong way! The handle was on the side farthest from the stove. This caused all of us to repeatedly reach for a handle that wasn't where we thought it was!

Also, the soap dish in the second bedroom tub fell off (before we even used the tub!). The maintenance guy couldn't believe how it was installed, but they did a great job of fixing it.

Whoever had it before us was hard on that bathroom - not only was the dish broken, but the floor of the tub was already stained with dirt - hard to believe in a room not that old!

BCV was great too. We were in 354, a bit of a walk in and out, but with a nice view of the small pool. The fridge handle there was fine!

LOL, I wonder if all the SSR units have the backward fridge? I suspect they installed the wrong one in that unit by mistake, and no one has reported it! That would be pretty awkward!

Now that you mention it, I remember that from our stay too (1BR; can't remember room number) - almost like stepping out of the kitchenette to get something out of the fridge LOL :rotfl2: . I got used to it pretty quickly though, no big deal. :)

Hope you enjoyed your stay!

It's very simple to swap the handle on a refrigerator and change the swing. I've done it at home a few times when we moved and the refrigerator door opened the wrong way. Most refrigerators can be switched (except for side by side and those with water in the door).

I guess the frig door thing could be a matter of opinion as to which is the correct side. If you are in the kitchen, at the stove cooking then it is more convenient for the handle to be closer to the stove.

However if you are in the living area and just want a cool drink having it on the other side is more convenient. :flower:

I've been (and am now) for the last week in a 1 bedroom in Congress Park -- and I've noticed it is odd how the set up it. It's especially odd when you are cooking.

Also -- a "design flaw" (in my opinion) is the light control for the closet off the room with the garden tub. It's on the outside. Also, I expect most would leave the closet door closed, with the door into the shower room swung all the way open against the closet door most of the time. I would have thought that to minimize possible wasteful electric use, DVC would have built the light switch for the closet to turn the light on and off when the closet door was opened or closed. :confused3

We live way up here in Montana so we're used to the backwards fridge concept.

It was probably designed by the same guy who decided the studio closet, the dressing area, and the bathroom door should all be the way they are! I found that arrangement to be very inconvenient. It was impossible for anyone to stand at the sink and get ready while anyone else is coming or going from the bathroom or anyone is needing to get into the closet.

Just back from SSR...and we agree with you on the Fridge !!!!

We stayed in the CP area(3314_. It seems odd that there are no rear exit doors on the first level to the pool area !!!! I drove me crazy each day exitin the pront of the building and walking around by the bus stop.

Oh well....We had a great time anyway !!!

when we were at SSR earlier this month, our fridge handle was on the right side of the fridge and the stove was to the right of the fridge.

must be a strange occurence but last week at SESAME PLACE PARK in
PA. WE stayed at a Hampton Inn about 2 mins away and the Fridge handle
also was on the wrong side made it tuff getting the Cold beers out of the
fridge without dropping them :rotfl2: ,hopefully they will fix the problem
