We are ready to purchase 150 points within the next couple of days. :cool1: The month we have been told that we can stay at SSR is August of 2005. This is taking the $85 per point. If we take the $95 per point we can stay as soon as the closing takes place. We normally take our vacation during July and or August. It would appear that because we take a vacation in July and or August to have the month of August as the month the points expire and or renew that this may cause some problems. :confused3 It also as I understand makes banking difficult if we decide not to take the vacation and do not know that until July. I am thinking if possible to purchase 150 points ending in December and go ahead and pay the $95 per point. That way I can take a vacation this year and leaves plenty of time to take the next vacation in 2006 without running into problems for banking.

Is this thought process reasonable or should I not worry to much about it and save the money by purcahsing at $85 per point. :confused3

We just recently purchased at SSR with a Dec UY for the same reasons. We got the $10/point discount. The only problem was that we could not vacation until December on point. From your post that does not seem like a problem for you.

That is exactly why I am looking at the 95 per point is to allow us to use the points currently and still have a renewed set of points starting December 2005. That is what I am considering and was wondering if anyone else did that as well.

Silos:

A few thoughts...

If you take the "free" points, be aware that they are Developer's Points that carry several limitations:
a) You cannot use them to stay at Saratoga Springs.
b) They expire on September 30, 2005. If you don't use 'em, you lose 'em.
c) They cannot be banked.

Unless you are absolutely certain that you can use these points, don't do it. If you do get the itch and need to visit WDW in 2005, just rent points from another member. You'll pay no more than $10 per point to rent.

Also a comment regarding the dates you threw out. Maybe I'm wrong, but I got the impression that you will frequently vacationing in July or August. If so, an August Use Year would be really bad (for July trips). December wouldn't be much better. June would be ideal.

If I'm correct about the July / August stays, and if you expect this trend to continue indefinitely, then you really want a Use Year that immediately preceeds your typical vacation patterns. I won't go into all of the details here unless you want me to. But just know that with an August Use Year you will could easily lose your points if you ever have to cancel a July trip on less than 90 days notice.

Your analysis is correct and on the same track that I was considering. I wanted to see if anyone else was seeing it the same way. However, if I understand the way points are banked along with the timeline, I believe I should be getting a March or April Use Year. This month give me some flexiblity if I chose different months to vacation.

Thanks for your information and I think we are on the same page on this subject. Any other thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

I just purchased a contract as well. I was told I could get the $10.00 off per point and bank my 2005 points. We just got back from 12 days and joined the dvc on our last day. We dont plan on returning till August or September of 2006. So we get our 2005 points (banked), our 2006 and we can even borrow into 2007 if needed. Do I have it right?

You're right. Silos could take the 2005 points and still get the $10 per point discount. The decision he is trying to make is whether to take another year's worth of points (Developers' Points) in lieu of the $10 per point discount.

Ok now I think I got it.
I could have paid the extra 10 and took a vacation in 2005 and still banked my 2005 use points? But, I would have to wait until my use month of aug 2005 to use the extra vacation points for use at anything but ssr.

Actually the extra vacation points (Developer's Points) are available for use immediately after you sign the contract. And they expire on 9.30.05 if not used.

Like I said to Silos, since it's very easy to rent point on this forum for $10 each (the same value DVC is attaching to the points), my suggestion would be to just take the discount and then rent whatever points you want/need to travel before your 2005 Use Year begins.

I have pretty much decided to take the $85 per point. If we want to take at vacation this year I will try to rent some points. I will probably purchase around 175 points and than go to a resale site during this year and purchase approximately 50 more points perhaps at OKW. Save money on points and get a foot in on another resort.
