SSR Pool

Where would I want to be if we wanted to be near (i.e., walking distance) the big, main (i.e., noisy) pool? I'm just trying to get a handle on how big SSR is. I don't want to take a bus to the get to the big pool. Thanks!!

Grandstand is also very close (no more than a 5 minute walk) and has a great splash/play area for younger children. It's also the first bus stop into the resort where Springs is the last bus stop (and often crowded).

They have also added another "main" themed pool/counter service in the Paddock section which is an easy walk for both those staying in Paddock and Congress Park.

Springs is the closes,
but Congress Park, and Grandstand both also very close.

CP is the least likely getting as a lot of people request it for DTD view.

You could just request a room close to the Main pool if that is what is important to you.

Another thought, there is now a nice pool (though a bit smaller ) in the Paddock area. My children actually preferred the new smaller pool to the older larger pool. The new pool also has food.

We were very impressed with the Paddock pool. We stayed in the SPrings and were halfway between that new pool and HRS. In comparison, we enjoyed the Paddock Pool much more.

There is a slide at both - I thought the Paddock slide was more fun. In addition, there are hot tubs at each, as well.

I vote springs. The Pad pool is beautiful, but smaller. Though do not be disappointed being "stuck" near the Padd Pool either.

We as well were pleasently suprised by how much the new pool helped SSR and really improved our stay. We do not go for quiet pools much. I know others do, but for us the walk in, splash area, pop refill station, games pool side and music are all winners to us.

SSR has a reputation for being big (and it is)...still, a little perspective may help:

You can (I do, regularly) walk to/from the furthest points of SSR in 15 or so minutes (and pass 4 pools along the way)...nothing is more than 10-15 minutes away (walking at a reasonable pace) from Carriage House (check-in), which is the location of the main pool...

Grandstand is a 3-5 minute walk--plus it has its own pool (no slide) and
kiddie splash play area (food & drink available)
Paddock is a 3-5 minute walk--has its own pool, w/slide (food & drink
available)
Carousel and Congress Park are 10-12 minutes from Carriage House
(walking "gently")--Congress Park has its own "quiet pool"...no slide,
no food options
Springs is directly across the street from Carriage House, the main pool
(yes it has a slide) and Artist's Palette

Yes, there are buses that go through all five neighborhoods that you can hop if you have sore feet or just don't feel like walking.

Congress Park is a 5-10 minute walk (depending on which end of it you're in) to the Marketplace at Downtown Disney

Spring (across the road from Carriage House) and Grandstand are 5-10 minute walks across the bridge to Downtown Disney West Side

We absolutely love SSR...it's a great walking/strolling resort with lovely grounds and lots of amenities. But nothing is really all that far away, despite its reputation for size!

I don't know why, but I thought the Paddock Pool was a great size. No, it's not as large as HRS, but it is certainly not small.

We just got back (and are just itching to return already). We requested either the Paddock section, near the pool or the Springs section, near the pool. On arrival, we were given a choice between the closest building too the main pool or one of the two closest buildings to the Paddock pool. We picked the Paddock to try the new pool, and it was a very quickto get to the main pool-- walk across the bridge and past the Springs Buiding that we could have chose to stay in.

We spent equal time at both pools. Both have crafts (although the Main pool has them inside at the Community Hall all day long), both have great slides, both have hot tubs (Main one has two), both have pool side bars, both have food options (Artist Pallete is more extensive, but no burgers), both have DJs who come and do afternnoon party fun and games. Our kids (11, 9, and 7) liked the Paddock slide the best.

If you have any young kids (8 and under), try and stay in the Paddock Area near the pool. It also has a great small slide/water play area. Think playground with water. If you have no kids or older kids-- either one is great.

Really, the only are I would not want to stay in is the Carousel-- too far and no pool. All others have their own good things (Grandstand: pool, water gun/ splash area, food, hot tub, first stop for buses in and out of SSR, quick walk to Main Pool), Congress (pool, views and DDT). Yes, SSR is big, but to us it is like getting to try a new resort each time with the same easy access to all the things we love.

They both have those activities throughout the day. I believe the night activities are only at HRS, though. I don't technically know your answer about the slide, but I thought the Paddock pool slide was more fun.
