SSR Owner Reservation Start Date?

Greetings!

Just wondering if anyone has a definitive answer on when SSR owners can start making reservations. I'm aware of the 'what building you own' issue; I'm curious about comments I've seen that say we can't start making ressies until Dec 3, as stated in a letter accompanying the SSR litho.

And yes, I could call my guide (and my mileage may vary, and past performance doesn't guarantee future results, and the coffee may be hot), but this is just more social....

Thanks!

According to the paperwork that came with my contract, that I have in front of me:

"You may begin to make reservations at Disney's Saratoga Springs Recort on December 1, 2003 (or at other DVC Resorts as soon as you purchase) for stays beginning on or after your unit is available for occupancy, subject to the Home Resort Priority Period. "

"The estimated date your unit is available for occupancy and the estimated closing date are listed on the first page of your Purchase Agreement. All reservations are subject to availability."

DrTomorrow,

For what it's worth, I had thought about contacting my guide, but decided against it. Regardless of what date he would have given, I have every intention of being on the phone 12/1.

I'm not even going to put myself in a position where our Guide says 12/3, and then I log onto this board the night of 12/1 and find out that dozens have already made ressies.

Whatever they end up doing, I sure as heck hope they are consistent in their taking of the reservations. If I'm asked to call back on 12/3, so be it, but I better not find out later that others were allowed to make reservations on 12/1.

Well, as far as I'm concerned, you can close this thread right now. tjkraz has given me the definitive answer:

I remember during the Great AP Rate Wait & Debate of last summer, some AP rates were made available for an hour or so before being pulled out of the system; I don't want to be on the wrong side of SSR ressies. "Oops, sorry, I really thought it was the 3rd...."

Dec 1, 2003, 9:00 AM EST - I'll be on the phone to MS!

Thanks again, tjkraz!

[Edited to add] And please take note of the wonderful spirit of the DIS DVC forum: an Ohioan - tjkraz - helping out a Michigander - me - on the eve of the big Univ of Mich / Ohio State game. Pixie dust is truly magic! :wizard:

Oh, ME TOO! Except I will not be making SSR reservations -- we'll be trying for BCV. We're going to try for SSR for New Years Eve 2004-5.

If you want to stay at a DVC resort that is not SSR, and you are within the 7-month booking window, you can call NOW!!

I know this to be true because we just bought SSR and we already have our reservations for next June. If you want to stay at a different resort, don't wait until December if you are already within the window.

As for the Dec 1 or Dec 3 thing, that may have to do with opening days for SSR. Some of us have May 17 and others have June 1. If you are unsure, just call on Dec 1 and the worst that happens is you have to call back.

I got a call from DVC member services a few nights ago, to thank me for my add-on and to let me know that all my paper work was in order for them to record in the spring. Then she said we just wanted to also remind you that you can start making ressie for SSR on 12/1 for dates after 5/17/04. I said really, are you sure about that. She said absolutly and we're planning on having a very busy day that day. But, the date doesn't bother me to much since we are going on a DCL cruise and I'll be renting my points out to pay for it.

dr. tomorrow- I called my guide after receiving my litho which said I could book Dec.3. He called MS for me and confirmed that if your availability date is in May then you can book Dec. 1. So if they don't let me book Dec.1 I'll be throwing a "mommy tantrum" as my dd calls it!:p
By the way when are you wanting to make ressies for? We're trying for 6/6 thru 6/17 in a studio...

Just wanted to let you know that I already have reservations at BWV for May, but can't wait til Dec 1st to switch to SSR! YEAH!

ARE YOU KIDDING ME????!!!!

We were told to wait until December 1st by our guide. She also knew we would be booking BCV and NOT SSR.

Should I call her to book or MS?

UGH!!!!!!!!!!

Call MS and get the reservation you want first then if you have questions for your guide follow up with them next. They have to ask other guides for answers too, so don't rely on them completely.:hyper: :wave2:

I see that I'm not the only one interested in this issue. :jumping1:

I could have provided a little more info to be helpful: DW and I are hoping for a SSR Studio 5/22-5/27 (Sat - Th) - we figure we should do a studio at least once before we get spoiled by a 1BR. We own in Unit 1L, so I'm eligible for the May dates; it was the litho letter that had me confused. CRSNDSNY - the others are correct - if you own SSR and want to book at another resort, the 7 month rule is already in effect - so if your dates are June 20 or earlier, call NOW!

Thanks again for all the input - considering the "Ask 4 Disney CMs and get 5 answers" rule, I trust the DIS DVC family....

Dr TOmorrow- bummed you and DW will be there before us, I would have loved to bumped into you at our home. but I fully expect you to come back and post EVERYTHING about SSR so I can take full advantage of your knowledge for our trip;)

That's a promise, Oh Mistress of the Silly Pool. Besides, we've only got, what, 50 years to run into each other?

Since we are new members at SSR, I have a question for you ressie vets. Would we be better off calling on 12/1 or trying to make ressies through the web site?

Thanks!

Just don't forget that some of your DIS DVC family are also Disney CM's.

True enough! But I feel that the CMs who bravely venture forth into the DIS DVC forum are likely to be a little better informed, and have double-checked their answer, than some poor soul who answers the phone; particularly when it comes to an oddball issue like how closing dates and unit ownership effects SSR reservation dates. Case in point - look at the varying answers the folks in this thread have received.

Plus, I never fault a CM for giving an incorrect answer, as the true problem (IMHO) usually lies at a much higher level; either 'spin.the.wheel.for.today's.answer' upper mgt or poor communication of policy, whether new or a change.

I am SO glad I posted on this thread. Thank you ALL SO MUCH! :) I called this morning and got a 2BR at BCV for May 23 - 28. PHEW! Definitely relieved!

You all are so AWESOME!

Thank you thank you MickeyMama! We too are new SSR owners and our guide told us we had to wait until December1st to book anywhere, not just SSR. We want to try BCV our first trip home, so when I saw your post I quickly called MS and got our studio at BCV for the dates we wanted in early June. If I had waited until Dec 1st, it might no longer be available. So, if any SSR owners want to book another resort in that 7 month window, call now.

Thanks you guys, you are great!

So if we bought at SSR and have a Feb use year, we can book now for a trip in Feb using our points or does the trip still need to start after the May opening date? Is this affected by the $10 discount per point that was offered?
