We will be staying for 5 days at VWL and then moving resorts for the last two days of our trip. Right now, all that is available is SSR or OKW. We have a few things waitlisted, but if we had to choose between SSR or OKW, any recommendations? (especially considering we will be with our 1 year old DD). Which resort is "better"?

We have been to both resorts..

SSR,, has the zero entry pool which might be nice for your one year old..There are also the splash-play area at SSR it has ponies that spray water.

OKW,, has sand near the pool area too!!:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

I haven't stayed at SSR, so can't speak to that. But, we stayed at OKW when my DS was about 11 mos. We were on the ground floor... the patio is wonderful, we would eat breakfast out there almost every day. The ducks would come by every day, and my DS got the biggest kick out of that!!

Besides the wonderful balcony and wildlife to watch, OKW has a fantastic sand play area and kiddie pool. The quiet there would probably be a good match for you as well. We also find OKW to be easier to get around than SSR too.

I LOVE OKW. We stayed there for the 23rd time two weeks ago and took my 19 month old grandson. He had a great time at the Turtle Pond play area and in the sand. But then we pool-hopped to SSR. He really liked the zero entry pool and especially the play area w/ fountains and a Donald Duck statue. You might just stay at OKW for the size of the accommodations and the balcony and pool hop to SSR. FWIW

One thing is that only 3 buildings at OKW have elevators so if you wouldn't want to carry strollers or your DD up and down stairs then you need to request to be in one of those buildings or a ground floor.

We have stayed at SSR with our DD 5 times so far ranging in age from 20months-31 months. Although she is older than your DD, I'd still go with SSR. Our little one loves the spray areas at the mian pool and the Grandstand area pool. I also like the fact that SSR's main pool is zero entry and she can sit with mom or dad in a shallow bit of water and play, just like a bath at home.

Also as a PP psoter mentioned, unlike OKW, every building at SSR has an elevator so it's easy to put little one in the stroller and then take the elevator down and stroll to the bus stop without having to take little one out of the stroller until the bus comes.

How close is the main pool at SSR to the boat dock there?

We are staying at OKW the week of labor day with our 5yo DD and 23mo old DS. I know we are going to spend a lot of time at the pool and it would be fun to try out one at SSR if it's easy to get to.

Really close.

You just walk up from the boat dock, into the back of the main building (there is an entrance by the Turf Club restraunt which you will encounter when coming from the boat dock), through the gift shop/counter service restraunt (Artist's Pallete) and out the front doors of AP to the pool area.
