Greetings all,

So this weekend DH and I were visiting friends who have never stayed at a DVC property even though they have seen every Disney park around the world:confused3

So over dinner the Food and Wine Festival comes up as a topic. Our friends have never heard of it and ask how can that be? Next thing I know DH is inviting them to join us for a weekend in October.:scared1:

Since the man has no clue as to the ins and outs of optimum DVC planning I knew before calling DVC that our home BWV would not be available.

Nonetheless I called today and found the only places with availability are SSR and OKW. We can get two studios or a 2BDR at SSR or a 2BDR at OKW. The main idea behind this trip is to hit the Food and Wine Festival.

I am thinking that a third option would be to plan on going next year and booking at our home resort at the 11-month window and try for what I really want ... 2BDR BWV with a BW view.

So if you were me what would you do?

I'd stay at OKW for two reasons. One is villa and porch size. For two couples it would give you maximum room to spread out. And at OKW, but not at SSR, you could all sit around the table on the porch having a meal or snack. And definitely not the studios. The two BR gives you a washer and dryer, and 3 TVs.
The other reason I'd choose OKW is because I just plain love it there.

Thanks for the input Simba's Mom:thumbsup2

Our first DVC stay was in a 2BDR at OKW about 13 years ago. It actually was after that visit that we bought at BWV:love:

My only concern about OKW is transportation to EPCOT.

hey stayed at OKW for 2008 - food/wine - and had a nice surprise - the Epcot buses came around like every 10 minutes - the other buses were normal 20 minutes. but someone at oKW understood we would go to the food/wine.

never had that good of bus service for Epcot before. So maybe you will be lucky too.

so would go with OKW.

I was at OKW last week and other than 1- 20 minute wait for a bus to MK and 1-15 minute wait for a bus back every other time I had less than a 10 minute wait- I don't know if buses were coming more often or if I was just lucky but the buses seemed to be great last week.

We like both - but if you go the two studio route - go SSR - the Studios at SSR are nicer.

I spur of the moment adventure is great. Go for it this year.
I would recommend OKW.
I'll be there for F&W this October also

Thanks spiceycat! I would hope that the master planners at WDW would schedule more EPCOT buses because of Food and Wine:wizard:

That's great news rlovew! :cool1:We used the bus from MK to BWV during our Christmas '08 and '09 visits and it was horrid!

Thanks Mouse511:thumbsup2 We have stayed at OKW but never SSR.

I am the queen of planning ... especially when it comes to our DVC and WDW:rotfl: A spontaneous trip maybe just what the doctor ordered!

The bus ride to Epcot is shorter than the other parks because it is closer.

I have never stayed at OKW but I LOVE SSR.
So, that's my vote!

BUT If you really want to stay at your home resort and show off your view and what not, I would probably wait till next year. I am high anxiety and last minute trips kind of freak me out even though the thought of an adventure sounds like a lot of fun!

The bus ride is not bad from OKW to Epcot. Go and enjoy. You can always walk over to BWV for a break in the afternoon. Go and enjoy this year!:goodvibes

I am thinking maybe DH and I will just go and stay at OKW this year and take our friends NEXT year:rotfl: We have our APs and the points ... gotta love DVC:laughing:

Appreciate all the input!

I don't see how you can lose at either resort. OKW has the larger rooms and great balconies. SSR has the wide open spaces and views and is walking distance to DTD, which gives you another option for dining and entertainment. The Turf Club is a great TS restaurant. Both resorts would have similar wait times for buses.

I think it also depends on what week you are going. For instance, the last week of food and wine is the second week in November(we will be there at that time). If you are going that week, you will also catch the Masters at DTD.In that cae, stay at SSR so you can take the nice stroll over to see that to.Can't go wrong with either though, just a bit more convenient if you were going that week.:goodvibes

Whoops,my bad Jen.Just realized you were talking about October. Please disregard the previous post.:rolleyes1

We do enjoy the Turf Club for dinner:thumbsup2

This trip will be really focused on EPCOT and the Food and Wine Festival so other dining options aren't all that important this trip.
