SSR or OKW for an add-on?

Hi all. We are in ROFR for a 150 point contract in BWV, but I am already planning my add-on , or second contract with the same UY.

I want to possibly purchase either resale or MAYBE direct at the lowest priced resort at WDW points-wise, which I think is either SSR or OKW. I need some pros and cons from the pros!

We are a family of four with two young DD's, ages 9 and 6. We like to be closer to Epcot, if possible, hence our decision to buy at BWV. But, I think the second set of points can be a bit more flexible location-wise. So, I need some help deciding where to buy. Thoughts? TIA!

It depends on how many points you are looking to add to get to where you want to be point wise; plus, how disappointed you would be if you can't stay at an Epcot resort. Sounds like you will be tied to a school calendar for a while, too (unless you home school).

If you only want 25 to 50, I'd be tempted to keep them all at BWV if you're only wanting BWV stays. Of course, if you want to do an OKW studio stay every three years in low season, a 25 to 30 point add-on might work with banking and borrowing.

I'm definitely a satisfied SSR owner, who has never stayed at OKW, so my $0.02 is probably not all that valuable. One nice thing at SSR is that the amenities are varied.. The grandstand pool and splash area I think has special appeal for preschoolers. Those with school age children will enjoy HRS theme pool. Congress Park has the DTD view which is great for couples. The new Paddock area pool will probably appeal more to families.

I've seen many posters on these boards suggest that SSRs point costs are too high. I personally think they are still a good value, but OKW are significantly cheaper. OKW has larger room sizes, which appeal to many. I'm also sure you'll get some comments here about the new refurbishment at OKW.

SSR resales are about 20% more, but that probably is at least balanced by lower MFs and (less importantly (or not at all) the longer contract.

If I could give you one "X" factor for your choice, it would be The Treehouses. Disney is renting out the 30 undeclared THs for $700 and up, the 30 declared THs are just 315pts/week during Magic season. I have seen one poster who got a several night TH stay at 7 months, but that will likely be the exception.
If the Treehouses appeal to you (and they're definitely not for everyone -
transportation is an issue if you don't bring or rent a car), I would think that should tip the scale toward SSR. If not, it might be worth it to book a stay at both resorts.

Ditto what previous poster said about SSR. If you want a tree house, you almost HAVE to own some points at SSR for that 11 month booking window.

If you add OKW points direct through Disney, you get the longer ending date for OKW.

I thought SSR was sold out, so why are only 1/2 the THVs 'declared?'
