SSR or OKW? First Trip Home...Need Advice

We stayed for 6 nights at SSR the 3rd week of March and only went to the parks 2 days. The rest of the time, we hung out at the resort. We had a great trip. We asked for a room in the Springs area - top floor with a water view and got a great room - 3414 - with a nice view of a "pond". We enjoyed relaxing on the balcony and watching the turtles, swan, ducks, etc. Great place to have coffee in the morning. Our room was close to the Main pool, community center, etc. We liked being able to walk back and forth to the room. We enjoyed the pool - which has a zero entry. We all loved the slide. Very smooth. For your 3 year old, they have a Donald Duck fountain area that was great for little ones. There are some pool activities - BINGO and a few pool games. Oh - we also enjoyed the hot tubs.

The refillable mugs were a great buy here. You can fill up your mugs by the pool bar. DS LOVED that. You can also fill them up at Artist Palette.

We liked having the community center right by the pool. It's pretty big - has Playstation games (DS LOVE that), table tennis, a large flat screen TV, etc.

The arcade is also by the pool and is much larger than the OKW arcade. DS/DH had fun in it. DH was a bit disappointed that it closed at 10 p.m.

The Turf Club is a nice place to hang out. We played pool several times. It's free and they have pool sticks that are smaller for kids to use. We ate dinner there one night - and watched the Disney Channel while playing pool - very relaxing (LOVED the tiramisu martinis - yummy tho pricey). There's a limited menu right now but you can get a decent kids meal at the Turf Club. DS had mac and cheese, with red grapes and a bag of goldfish crackers. They also have nonalcoholic smoothies.

DS went on the kids fishing trip. There were 3 kids and 2 cast members. He had fun and we enjoyed having a couple of hours to ourselves.

We also took the boat to DD - actually did a full loop to OKW. We also visited OKW later that week. I actually thought the pool was better at SSR - tho. I do like the tropical themeing of OKW. SSR is a bit barren right now.

SSR has elevators - and OKW does not. We didn't walk to DD but I hear you can easily. We prefered to take the boat, the bus, or one night I drove (we had a rental car).

We only ate one meal at the Artist Palette. We had a car and bought groceries so we ate breakfast and lunch in our room. DS and I did eat dinner at Artist Palette one night. They have a dinner special each night. Our night they had a big portion of chicken (breast, leg, thigh) with mashed potatoes and a veggie for $7.99. It was quite large and a pretty good deal.

Our unit at SSR was very quiet. We didn't hear a peep out of anyone. Maybe the fact that we had a top floor, end unit helped.

Oh - you can take a carriage ride at night around the waterways. It's $35 and you could fit your whole family (two adult and two kids). We saw people doing this and it looked very relaxing.

You can also rent bikes - and surrey bikes. The prices looked pretty reasonable - but we passed.

We enjoyed our trip!

We did rent the water mice ast OKW once and it takes so long to get through the slow zones your time is almost up by the time you get out onto the actual lake if you are only renting for 30 minutes.
I agree. Do NOT rent the water mice at OKW. They are painfully slow at this resort. But we love renting the pontoons and Sun Tracker boats. We pack a little picnic lunch and cruise down the canal towards DD.

SSR is close to DD and has a nice food court, which OKW lacks.
True, SSR has the food court which may be better with younger kids. But OKW has a full service (casual) sit down restaurant which SSR doesn't have (yet).
