I think it all depends on your personal preferences. I have been at both over Christmas and each has it's own appeal. I prefer OKW because I love the Poinsettias lining the walkway in the hospitality house area. The tree in the SSR check in area was lovely but the poinsettias just do it for me. The really traditional evergreens etc are at VWL which as you said is not one of your options. I would make my decision based on what size villa I was stayinng in. If it was a studio I would go for SSR because it would be just 2 of us and I like having the sofa for TV watching etc. Anything else would be OKW. Since it will be 6 of us this year I will be at OKW the week after Christmas unless my waitlist comes through for either THV(for the bunk room) or AKV( for the 3rd bathroom).

Let me preface this by saying this is strictly my personal preference. I like OKW over SSR for two reasons. Room size at OKW is much larger with a huge balcony and I spend time outside drinking coffee etc. The second reason is just an overall feel of the resort. If you want the freedom of walking to Downtown Disney then go with SSR. If you don't mind taking the boat to DTD then I would pick OKW. Just some things to consider - have a wonderful Christmas vacation and know that no matter which resort you pick it will be the right choice as they are both great!

Like other posters, I have stayed at both during the Holidays and prefer OKW for the decorations. There is something charming about Christmas decorations mixed in with the Old Key decor. It also appreas, IMHO, that more guests put Christmas decorations, including lights, on their decks than at other DVC resorts.

I am going to put in a vote for SSR. We have stayed there for Xmas 2 years in a row.

We do bring decorations and participate in the tree swapping on this board.

We decorate our balcony and very much enjoying walking over to DTD where IMHO there is the most xmasy feel around.

The tree in the lobby of SSR is gorgeous, but how often are we in teh lobby? never after check in.

For me, the newness of SSR, the pine trees (which remind me of NE home) and the walk to DTD is what brings us back every time to SSR

SSR is my favorite between the two and I won't stay at OKW again.....just my personal opinion. I just don't enjoy the decor or anything about OKW and I love SSR.

Since you question was about the Christmas decor, I will limit my answer to that question. Both are about the same, which is less than the mixed resorts.

BWV, BCV, AKV, and VWL have more/better decorations because they share the budget with the regular resorts. SSR and OKW have to buy all of the decorations for their resorts so there will be less.
